Product code already used?

when i first got the game, i played it right away without having to add my game onto the origin account. it was automatically there. I didn't play sims for awhile because i was busy with school. I got on it tonight but i had to update origin. i updated and it told me to add my game to my origin account by using the code. I had already used the code to download the game when i first got it. i typed in the code and it said that the code was already used so i am unable to play the game so i wasted $80 on it?!
