Re: Accidentally moved my Electronic Arts folder to desktop.

One more thing I just noticed in the Ea App was it deleted my Sims 3. I’ll try to recover it. 

Just wanted to add that I was asking about moving it back to its original location because I worry about it crashing. Thank you for your help! 

@AgnewLeah  Sims 4 will only read the contents of one user folder, and you can always find out which one that is through this in-game method:

Since the game is almost certainly not reading the Sims 4 folder on your desktop, that folder's contents are doing nothing, and deleting the folder would have no effect on the way the game runs.

Definitely move over the contents of Tray though.  These files are the data for anything you've saved to your in-game library, whether your own creations or those you've downloaded from the Gallery.  It's not your Gallery uploads per se, although you've probably saved all your Gallery uploads locally as well.  Point is, put those files back and your in-game Library content will be back too.

I don't know why Microsoft support would tell you not to add the files back, unless it's a "leave well-enough alone" kind of reaction.  But if your creations and downloads are important to you, you'll need the contents of that folder.

If you'd like help sorting out the OneDrive mess, just ask.  In that case, please also list the full file path to your user folder as you see it in-game, like the link above describes.

Yeah, so, I think the electronic arts folder now goes to: This PC - Windows (C: - Users - Imagn - Documents - Electronic Arts - The Sims 4. The original location was Leah - Personal - Documents - Electronic Arts - The Sims 4. Microsoft support told me to leave it alone if it’s working, so I guess they did have that reaction. If the desktop Electronic Arts folder isn’t doing anything why does it keep popping up on the desktop everytime I open the game - I think the desktop electronic arts folder is doing something, I opened it today and it takes me to the new location for the sims 4. Right now my one drive isn’t syncing documents it says: The documents folder contains other important folders and isn’t supported for file backup. So that’s kind of weird. I’ll post a screenshot of the one drive. Thank you! 

I read something that said the game now sees the desktop folder as its root location. I would not know how to fix that so I may just leave it there. 

The graphics are a little grainy today. Hopefully this picture works. It’s not too bad though. 

@AgnewLeah  What's inside the folder on your desktop?  I'd like to see a screenshot.  And I'm not sure what you mean by the folder keeps popping up: do you delete it and it reappears, or something else?

Please also list the install location for Sims 4 as the EA App sees it.  Open your game library, click Sims 4, select Manage > View Properties, and you'll find it there:

The current location for the user folder is fine and actually a good thing.  Having that folder in OneDrive can only complicate matters.

By popping up I mean even if I delete or move it - it reappears on the desktop. And yeah, ok - leaving it where it is might be best. I included some screenshots. Thanks for all your help! 

@AgnewLeah  Everything on the desktop is just user data, which is good: the files are duplicates of what you already have and are therefore expendable.  It sounds like OneDrive is redownloading the folder to the desktop even after you delete it, and in spite of OneDrive saying it is unable to sync the desktop files.  Try pausing syncing before deleting the folder; the option shows up when you right-click the cloud icon in the lower-right corner of the screen.

While you're at it, please let me know how much free and total storage OneDrive has.  Right-click the cloud icon and choose Settings > Account, and you'll see this:

I'm not at all suggesting you buy more storage, only that it would be helpful to know whether this is contributing to the problem.

Ok - thank you. There is 15.7 GB used of 1TB (1%). 

I don't know why thats happening with OneDrive. I decided to leave everything as it is because I don't want to cause more damage. The Sims 4 screen was flickering a little bit and i read somewhere that I needed to check the "vertical sync" in game options. I did that and it no longer flickers, so thats good. I opened up The Sims 2 to make sure it works and it moved the EAGames folder to the desktop as well, and I don't know why. It's like The Sims now sees my desktop as the files root location. I would not know how to fix that so I'm just leaving it. I might end up reaching out to Microsoft Support for the OneDrive issue. Thank you very much for your help, the problem is (kind of) solved. I don't like those folders on my desktop but I think moving them and deleting them will just make it worse. Appreciate all your help. - Leah Agnew 

@AgnewLeah  If you want to fix this issue for good, a new Windows account would do it.  Making it a local account would mean no OneDrive at all; you could set it up later, but even then, you'd have all new settings for that account.  You don't need to do anything, of course; this is just an option in case the setup bothers you now or in the future.
