This is completely normal! as is something i really wish ea would amend!! as it is quite tricky to get around and quite pointless impo. i have found that this has been a tricky obstacle for many new and old simmers while placing a pre-existing sim into your world from the gallery, but is easy to overcome once you know how.

aspirations and traits

if just placing a sim from your gallery into the world you will not be able to pre-edit any of their traits. But if you first select an  empty lot then select create a sim, then go to your library and replace existing sim you will then be able to pre-edit all aspirations and traits as you are technically creating a new sim as apposed to just placing a pre-existing one directly from gallery to game. i hope i helped:3
