Re: Corrupted gallery sims 4

@valearci33

This problem may be related to your graphics card. The card cannot read the pictures correctly in the gallery.

It can also be related to damaged files in your game folder.

First, let the game replace the configuration files in the game folder. To do this, you must to do a factory reset of this folder.

Step 1. Rename The Sims4 folder to "The Sims4 old"
Step 2. Fix the game in Origin
Origin/Library - right-click on TS4 - option "Repair game"
You have to wait until Origin will fix all packs, not only the base game.
Step 3. Turn on the game - a new game folder will be created and you will have two - one old, one new
Step 4. Check if you still have this problem in the newly created game folder.
If the problem disappeared
Step 5. Delete in the new game folder following folders:
"saves" and Tray.
Step 6. Go to "The Sims 4 old" folder and copy - your "saves " folder.
Step. 7, Paste this folder in a newly created game folder.

Step 8. Do the same with Tray folder and TrayDeleteItems file
Step 9. Check if there are newly updated version mods you are using.
Then copy and paste your mods and CC from old mods folder to the new one. First copy the scripts mods every time checking if the game is working properly. If you have a lot of CC try 50/50 method ( divide your CC into smaller batches for example 50 pieces in one subfolder and check these subfolders one by one)
Step. 10. If all is OK - delete The Sims4 old folder.
Your saves and library will be fine and nothing will be damaged
If it will not work could you post your Computer's DxDiag?

  • @kreatora thank you so much. I will try now to do so and I will update here again, thank you for the explanation!
  • @kreatora Ps: I have a note to add: I don't think it's a problem releated to graphic card. I own 2 computers, one is this notebook I'm using now, but I have another good computer (tower computer) and also there it gives me the same problem. .. the graphic card is very good so i doubt it's something that have to do with this... I wonder what could be.. anyway i'm repair the origin... so we will see what happens...
  • @kreatora Ok, I've followed all these steps and till point 9 it works and there was not corrupted files with that "X" anymore.

From this point, something caused again that "X" in the game, so i think it's the folder "TRAY" where there's my sims saved and infact in the gallery are my sims that are corrupted...

Step. 7, Paste this folder in a newly created game folder.
Step 8. Do the same with Tray folder and TrayDeleteItems file
Step 9. Check if there are newly updated version mods you are using.

    -----------------------

    From step 10
the step 10 was not easy for me to understand. Infact, actually I simply copy and paste again the MOD folder with CC inside the mod folder
but i don't think it's a problem inside the mod or cc. It's the sims inside the folder tray that have some files corrupted.. so how i can choose which one is corrupted and deleted it, if I can't identify the exact corrupted families inside the tray folder and deleted them manually from the folder itself... sigh...

@valearci33 I also noticed one thing. I temporary moved only the foulder Tray in the new The Sims folder and launching the game, everything works (but also all the families and sims created are not on gallery anymore, so I don't see the corrupted files because simply the folder tray it's not there anymore.
But , since the families in the game villages are still there in the game, I wonder if I could play again by enter inside each family 's lots and maybe the folder Tray would automatically created again and the families would return on the SIms folder not corrupted?
Also, I 've transfered some families from a place to another, and maybe are exactly the families that I moved in another place that now appear with an "X", even if im not totally sure, I should check to be sure...
I mean, all these problems started since I bought the new expansions pack "ISland life" and "Parenthood"... I transfered some families in the new places (added by the Island life ), so maybe is for this that are corrupted? I don't have idea...

@valearci33in the tray folder there's these files:

    File BLUEPRINT
    File BPI
    File HHI
    File HOUSEHOLDBINARY
    File SGI
    File TRAYITEM

Which one could be the sims corrupted and which file with extension could be surely not a sim? For example i could copy inside tray all the files .TRAYITEM , as maybe are items (lots?) and not sims?

EDIT: ok, I put inside the folder TRAY, all the files with the extension " .BLUEPRINT ", i launched the game, went to the gallery and not corrupted files up to now. (and no sims families displayed so the blueprint don't include the sims inside the tray folder).

Now I will one for one put inside all the other files, until i find the group that could contains the families/sims that i see corrupted.

    See you later

The TRAY folder contains your families and homes. For something to be in the Tray folder, it must be saved to the library. Tray folder will not generate anything by itself.
Each sim or family consists of several files, so you cannot delete individual files because you damage the family. This family will still be in your library but mutilated and invisible in the Gallery.

What you see in the Gallery what is the named in the Gallery as a Library. this is the contents of the Tray folder shown as pictures. So to delete family you need to delete this image of the family. It will delete 4 files in your Tray folder.

So if you still have the old Tray folder. delete the one that you have tested and where you have experimented, and paste all the old one

The reason for your problem may have been caused by a broken Option or configuration file. The Options file, among others, is responsible for the graphics settings in your game. a Configuration, if I'm not mistaken is responsible for connecting to Gallery.

P.S. I wrote that for your problem is responsible, either the graphics card or files in the folder. The reason could be either this or this. Not everything at once. 🙂

I'm having a similar problem as reported in this post. The difference is that my laptop recently came back from the service where the HDD (SSD) exchange was made. I reinstalled the game but when I open the gallery everything crashes, runs very slowly and eventually "X" appears instead of the images. I did the recommended procedure up here, but it didn't work out.

PS.: The game and the gallery worked fine, so I don't think it's my graphic card

  • I've had a similar/same issue myself. Ever since the most recent update that added the debug items in build/buy and the CAS stories, the majority of my own households in my library are X'ed out and have the loading symbol in the middle of the thumbnails, exactly like the attached images at the start of this topic thread. I click on them and it brings up the household, but the overview thumbnail is just the grey background, and the "Could not locate this item" prompt appears. This has only happened to my households though, not my lots or rooms, even if they have custom content included. I've not noticed any correlation between the corrupted households either, because it has happened to households regardless of size, and even ones without any custom content have been affected too, including some households that I even first made back when I only had the base game. What I've also noted, is instead of displaying a file size, it instead says "less than 100 KB."

    So far I have tried:

    • Moving the saves, Tray and Mods folder to my desktop, repairing and uninstalling/reinstalling the game entirely and moving the files back after booting the game up once.
    • Using the 50/50 method on my cc, and separately, removing any cc that looks visibly broken.
    • Removing all the mods entirely and booting up the game without them to see if there is any change.
    • Deleting cache files.

I've not had any success in fixing the issue, and is a concern since I'm usually the type to just mess around and make loads of families. Feeling a little discouraged because I fear this may continue with future households I make. Similarly, I also doubt that my graphic card is the issue. The only other notable cc that alters the game is a loading screen colour mod which I put on after updating the game and discovering the issue and a white CAS background along with a CAS lighting overhaul which didn't make a difference once removed, I don't have any other script mods.

  • It's NOT a graphics card issue. It's because the Gallery loads so slowly, it takes FOREVER to refresh the content, especially if you decide to start checking left-side options or item search, hashtag search. I've seen the lag be non-existent at typical low usage times for my time zones, and when everyone is at home (and presumably more people are playing the game in my TZ), it's Horrendous. When lag is low, the previews pop up almost instantaneously. When the lag time is high, even the first screen of search results shows up all Red Xs.

EA needs to fix the lag while connected to Origin in-game. Come on folks, you built a content delivery system to push games out, but you can't give the same love to a key Build feature inside one of your bigger franchises? Gimme a break. I love the Sims, but this is a frustrating point that's been repeated by Voice of the Customer feedback over and over again.

Just to add, I've impatiently pressed on a Red X'd entry, and while there is still lag when the pop-up window with the Gallery Item Detail appears, once it loads, it shows the Preview, Content, Information. So it's NOT a Graphics card issue. It's ridiculously slow lag on the Gallery.

There is also an issue of Dead Content being picked up in search results. For example, I get a Red X'd item and no matter how many times I wait for it load, when the Detail window appears, it says "Content is no longer available."

Come on folks, who is running the search algorithm? Why isn't it at least scrubbing for dead/unavailable entries and NOT show them in the First place? It would help your Lag performance (likely a lot if not immensely) by not even trying to show/deliver those unavailable items in the search results.

  • Thank you for all the answers... up to now , the only thing that worked is the solution of Kreatora posted.  All the white/blank or strange thumbnails disappeared ! Thanks...

  • Sorry I've been quiet for so long, I've been busy with my personal life.

    So to update:

I still have the issue with my households in my gallery, and since the configurable stairs update, I'm not able to place any lots from my library. If I do it while editing a lot, it doesn't process the request and I'm still left with an empty lot, but if I try it while in the world view, the prompt asking me to place the lot greys out once I click to confirm and then the game is locked into that screen. I've removed all my custom content at the moment, so I've got nothing that conflicts with the patches and my Computer (A Windows 10) is capable of running the game, but it's becoming more and more unplayable. Recently bought the new packs too, so I could complete the collection, so feeling really disheartened when I'm forking over my cash for a game that's losing function after function.

  • I know it's an old thread, but I had problems with my gallery for a very long time and I were finally able to solve it!

In my case the gallery was extremely slow, with lagging cursor etc. Most of the lot had the described X as a "preview". I tried everything explained here and on other sites, including a complete fresh installation - nothing helped.

Today I wanted to re-install my graphic drivers, but I stumbled across the Game Ready section @ GeForce Experience which has an option for Sims4, too. When I disabled it for Sims4 everything was working smooth again. Totally forgot how nice the gallery could work without any lags etc. So if you're using a GeForce graphics card and have "optimize" for Sims 4 enabled, undo it and try again. I enabled and disabled it several times, and whenever it's enabled the gallery won't work as expected.

Hope to help other simmers with this problem 🙂
