Re: EA app changed language of The Sims 4?

@Nibbo0w  Please switch the language within Origin: open your game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, select Game Properties > Advanced Launch Options, and choose English from the menu.  Origin should switch things back for you, and then you can go back to using the EA App.

The "De Sims 4" folder is normal—Dutch is one of four languages that has a localized user folder rather than naming it "The Sims 4."

    Thanks for your reply! It worked. I did have to launch the game through origin first for it to take effect and then switched back to the EA app. Thank you so much!

    The origin app no longer opens correctly, but there is a forced window that tells me to download the new EA app which won't allow me to change the in-game language.

    @Ankunaattori

    To change language you need to uninstall the game and when you reinstall choose the language you want. You may need to also install the EA app in that language.

    Wasn't the reason for switching from origin to EA app "upgrade"? Why would we redownload the whole game over 50 GB each time just for the language change? Origin offered us the possibility to change languages without re-downloading the whole game. The ea app also needs to offer this

    Many people, including me, use the game to learn and practice foreign languages. It happens that I switch between languages several times in a month. Taking a step back in this way has hurt many users&players. Hope to fix it soon

    @jpkarlsen When trying to uninstall, the app is warning to lose all the bonuses. Would you know if that also concerns the extra items for early purchase (for example of Growing together)?

    Now, when in the EA app there is not the language list, does anyone know what should be written into the free-formatted field "Advanced launch options"?
    What didn't work (for Finnish):
    -finnish
    -suomi
    -fi_FI

    Many thanks!

    @Luciibr

    From what I know you will not lose anything from uninstalling and reinstalling.

    Advanced launch options do not have anything to do with language.

    @shen1318  Is the EA App running in Chinese or English?  If it's in English, please uninstall Sims 4 again, switch the App to Chinese, clear its cache:

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/

    And then try reinstalling the game.  You can install the base game only, at first, to save time.  If it's now in Chinese, you can install your DLC through Sims 4 > Manage > Manage add-ons.

    To be clear, the EA App should be able to install Sims 4 in Chinese even if the App itself is in English.  But sometimes this doesn't work properly.

    If the App is already in Chinese, or switching doesn't help, please use Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine) to do a clean uninstall of Sims 4 and the EA App.  I posted more detailed instructions here if you want them:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-PC/CURRENT-ISSUE-Sims-4-DLC-shows-as-installed-won-t-load-in-game/m-p/12942151#uninstall

    That thread is for a different issue, but the process is the same.  Restart your computer, reinstall the App in Chinese, then download Sims 4.

    It is also possible to change the language by editing the registry.

    In my case, first changing key "Locale" in
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Maxis\The Sims 4"
    and
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Maxis\The Sims 4"
    to "cs_CZ" for Czech (you need to figure out the locale code for your language yourself),
    then in EA App click The Sims 4 > Manage > Repair.

    It will download the string files responsible for language and when done, the game will run in the desired language.

    If you don't understand any part of this answer, the safest bet would be to just reinstall the game.

  • @Che4tek Thanks! I read elsewhere to just edit the string in WOW6432Node, but this wasn't enough. I don't know if it was editing both strings or the repair that did the trick, but it worked :-)
  • @Che4tek Thank you so much (I was dreading having to uninstall the game just to change the language) but this worked wonderfully and was pretty quick to get done. tysm.
  • @Che4tek tried changing my game to english but i'm getting an error "game language not supported" in the ea app

    @insuburbia  That will happen if you don't have access to that particular language.  There's no way around it within the EA App.  If you really want to play in a different language, uninstall the App version of Sims 4 and reinstall through Steam, which only offers the global (all languages included) version.  Then you can install any packs you own in the EA App, and they'll load when you launch the game from Steam.
