Did you fix the problem? I have the same problem and I can't play at all, even when I try other households. I notice this happened after i arranged a date. After the loading screen it just brought me to the map and now I can't play. I can't build either.

Yes! Exactly my problem. Even the date thing. Ive checked for updates and verified my files and it still doesnt work!
Basically what i did with my game is that i opened the saves folder and deleted the most recent files there and it just restored the game to an earlier point before the problem occurred and now it works fine

I have the same problem and I don't know what to do, and it says you posted that post on 2014, so I figured maybe by now you have the fixed the problem.. If you could tell how that would so helpful! I really don't know what to do, I tried repairing the game a couple times and it just doesn't change anything.. please help!
