Crashes and bugs

I've erased all mods, restarted multiple times, repaired the game, deleted the local thumb....all the usual suspects. My game crashes in a multitude of different ways:

  1. When trying to save to my library.
  2. When I place windows in build mode.
  3. When I go to manage worlds and click on a lot to modify it in build mode.

I am also getting crazy food bugs:

  1. I can't eat items from the fridge or when I cook. I have to restart to fix it.
  2.  Customers randomly start grabbing dozens of plates of rotten food from the refrigerator case....but there isn't any food in the case, rotten or otherwise. I have to restart to fix it.

  • Temperance333  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.  Let me know which issues are still present.

When testing, don't download anything from the Gallery; just use fresh sims on a default EA lot.

If you get another crash, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

I will give it a try tomorrow. Thank you for the response. I'll report back with the results.

I tested for about an hour and did not run into the same issues. Based on that, what are my next steps? Is there a way to go back to my old saves or does all future game play need to be in the new version created after moving the old Sims game out of the folder?

  • Temperance333  The next step is (or can be) copying one of your saves to the new Sims 4 folder, to see how it runs in the otherwise clean folder.  Let me know what you find.

If you want to go back to using mods, test them separately, using the save you just created or a new one.

I tried to load a save file and my computer is crashing again on the same, half built lot. It crashes when:

    1. I try and save the lot in build mode.
    2. If I go to manage worlds and try to open the lot in build mode.

I have to restart before I can run the diagnostic, I'm not sure if that will affect what you see in the file. I also have the duplicate world bug for the new pack. It did not appear in the new save when I moved the SIMs on the desktop, but as soon as I tried to load an old save it reappeared.

  • Temperance333  Try a different lot in a different world.  The thing is, if your new save works fine and the old save does not (whether it's all the lots or just some of them), the problem is likely the save and not your computer.  I do see plenty of Sims 4 crashes in your dxdiag, but they're too generic to be of any use by themselves and could easily be due to a corrupt save.

It doesn't matter whether you run the dxdiag after a restart.  It's a system report, and almost all of the information is independent of the immediate context.

Please also let me know whether you get any lastexception files (not lastcrash) when you try to open one of the affected lots.  They'd be in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4.  If you find one, and I'd only want one from the clean user folder and generated without mods or custom content present, open the file and delete its first line of text, then attach it to a reply here.
