Do you have a maid or butler? Both will take care of the laundry while you are gone.

i do have a maid but the laundry room door is locked so she can't get to it, the clothes just completely disappear
@ashtaylor97 Has your sim been home when the maid showed up? Maybe the maid has a pass key? I suggest you watch the maid when she comes.
When you are away when the maids schedule starts you will on return get a note "A Maid cleaned your house while you were away" Everything dirty has been cleaned. It does not matter that there is a lock on any door even the main door as the game simply removes everything dirty. No one actually comes around since no one is at home to see them.
