I just tried in my game and it works like it used too.
Maybe try reverting to the latest non-beta Origin ?

That's what I was thinking. Now, hopefully, I'll be able to figure out how to do that!
For anyone who is looking for the answer to this problem, I did rollback to the most current regular Origin, by simply unclicking the beta option. Once you do that, then quit Origin and restart it, it automatically rolls back to the version you had installed before the beta update happened.
It worked. Now I can again access the online areas through the game when I want to, and then turn the option off again, when I'm done.
