I can still launch the game by either:
- searching for it via the Start menu in Windows; or
- searching the EA app for one of the add-ons I have installed and clicking 'Play' from the Add-on product page.
One of those options might help you play for the time being.
Hopefully it's just a temporary issue with the EA app (which is still quite buggy).

Unfortunatley neither of these worked for me but thanks anyway :).
My EA App tells me I can no longer purchase the Sims 4 base game???? and I only own 1 game pack. Oh, and I can't launch the game even though it's in my EA library. I own all DLC (cost me a bloody fortune) and I am sick and tired of this!!! Why do I have to launch a game I own and have paid over $1000 for through this poorly functioning App? I want my own desktop launch for this game...period!!
