We are tracking this issue internally and working to get it resolved ASAP, The Sims 4 does not require EA Play in any form to function. 

I'll post updates as I get them in this thread. 

Update: @Ace_C1 has shared a potential solution for this issue until the issue is resolved:

I also found a work around for anyone else experiencing this problem but had the game installed beforehand. Navigating to the game's directory and going under [game folder]/game/bin and opening it manually though the .exe opens the game without issue. Interestingly the EA app would close/crash the moment the workaround is performed and refuse to open until the Sims 4 is closed.

Update: We are beginning to see recovery for The Sims 4 at this time. Thank you for your patience.
