Re: Sims 4 Crashing When Opening

@82722381  Your dxdiag lists a number of errors related to the computer's page file, which is where overflow data is stored when it doesn't fit in RAM.  This could be a problem with the configuration of the page file or with the drive itself, or with something else on a system level.

The first thing to try is deleting the page file and letting it rebuild.  Use option three of this guide to set the minimum and maximum sizes of the page file to zero:

https://www.elevenforum.com/t/manage-virtual-memory-paging-file-in-windows-11.8618/

Restart your computer a couple times, then use option one to set the page file to be automatically managed, and restart again.

If you get another Sims 4 crash, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent attempt to launch Sims 4, specifically after rebuilding the page file.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

Hey! I appreciate you trying to help. Unfortunately, even after letting the page rebuild, it's still closing the game repeatedly.

Attached is what I believe the error under the reliability monitor.

    Hope this helps!

@82722381  Sorry for the late reply; I didn't have enough time to answer posts here for a few days and am only now catching up.  Yes, the error does help, although it's the same as before.  But that means rebuilding the page file didn't make a difference.  So the next step is to test your hard drive:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste "chkdsk /f /r c:" without quotes, and enter
    • You'll be asked to allow a restart; say yes
    • When the scan is done, use this guide to find the results

You should be able to attach the report to a post as well.  Running chkdsk will take some time, so you may want to leave it while you're doing something else.

I also want to mention that SSDs are very cheap now, and installing one into a desktop is relatively simple.  I'm not saying you need to replace your current drive, but it would be a quality-of-life improvement inside Sims 4 and otherwise.
