Re: sims 4 files

@astridou4  I've moved your post to the Sims 4 PC tech section.

Is Sims 4 reading data from OneDrive, or is that where your saves are?  If it's the latter, you can copy your saves to your desktop, disable OneDrive's automatic syncing of Documents, and move the saves to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves.  You can do the same with the contents of Tray as well as any other user data you want to keep.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/choose-which-onedrive-folders-to-sync-to-your-computer-98b8b011-8b94-419b-aa95-a14ff2415e85?ui=en-us&rs=en-us&ad=us

If this isn't what's happening, please post the full file path to the saves you see.  You can write [username] instead of your username if you want, but leave the rest of the file path intact.

Thank you for moving my post and answering!

So I think that I managed to delete the files that were on One Drive (after copying them of course). I did paused the syncing of the documents and made sure my game files were now in my documents BUT my game still doesn't recognize my saves.. It is as if I had just started the game.

Also all my saves have quite a weird name I think, for example "Slot_00000006.save 1.ver4".

This is still the path of the files...

    C:\Users\astri\OneDrive\Documents\Electronic Arts\Les Sims 4\Captures d'écran\

@astridou4  The .verx on the end of a save means it's one of the automatic backups the game creates.  These are really the files from the last five times you saved before the most recent one.  But if you delete the .verx extensions and renumber the saves (so you don't have multiple files with precisely the same name), those saves can be loaded as well.

Your saves need to be in C:\Users\your username\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves, or often shortened to This PC\Documents etc.  They can't be read if they're in OneDrive, and they can't be read if they're in your screenshots folder either.  Be sure to make backup copies of your saves before moving them around, preferably on an external drive or USB if you have one, as OneDrive can sometimes interfere when you're trying to remove files.

Ok sorry but I really can't figure out how to suppress the EA file from One Drive without it suppressing it from my computer, at the same time. I really don't know why it does that.I tried to stop the syncing with this particular file but then the file disappears from my computer... Maybe there's a simple way to do it and I'm dumb but.... I need help, sorry ^^

Even when I move the file to the right place it automatically syncs with one drive and I tried to unsync it but again it does not work!!!! I'm lost and really annoyed xD

  • Update : I think I managed to suppress the EA file from One drive and to keep it on my PC because now my path looks like this

     C:\Users\astri\Documents\Electronic Arts\Les Sims 4\Captures d'écran\

BUT I still don't have my saves....

@astridou4  Again, the saves need to be in ...\Les Sims 4\saves (or whatever it says in French instead of "saves"), not ...\Les Sims 4\Captures d'écran\, which is for screenshots.

Yeah sorry the linked I copied was not the right one. But here it is C:\Users\astri\Documents\Electronic Arts\Les Sims 4\saves\Slot_00000002.save, so they are in the right place now but my game does not acknowledge them still.

@astridou4  Please launch the game and create a new save (no need to spend much time on it; this is just for testing).  Put the sim in a house, save, and quit to the Main Menu, then click Load Game.  With your new save selected, hover over the folder icon below the details (save name, last played, etc.), and copy the file path you see into a post here.

@astridou4  I was asking whether the file path showing when you hover over the folder was the same as the file path on your older saves, the ones that aren't loading.  Please compare the two, and if they're not the same, list both file paths here.

    C:\Users\astri\Documents\Electronic Arts\Les Sims 4\saves\Slot_00000002.save

    C:\Users\astri\Documents\Electronic Arts\Les Sims 4\saves

    They are the same

@astridou4  Okay, please move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  Launch the game to create a clean folder with no content; you can quit at the Main Menu.  Copy only one of your saves from the folder you moved into the new folder in Documents, and see if it will load.  If it doesn't, remove that save, copy over a different one, and see if that will load.

I did what you told me, I tried with four different files to be sure and my saves still didn't load into the game

@astridou4  That's a bit odd.  Even saves where you had to delete the .verx extension didn't work?  Have you ever played these saves with packs that you don't currently have installed?  That can often prevent a save from loading at all.

Actually I tried again with a file where I deleted the "ver" extension and it worked! So I think I should rename all my saves but I'm not sure of how they work. For example, why do I have

    Slot_00000009.save 30

    AND

    Slot_00000009.save

what does the thirty mean? Can I delete it?

@astridou4  Yes, you can get rid of the 30 on the end, but you'll first need to renumber the save so it doesn't have exactly the same name as any other save.  For example, you could rename it Slot_0000000a.save or Slot_00000010.save, but you can't have two files named Slot_00000009.save in the same folder.  (That may be why the 30 is on the end, because duplicates with the same name were created.  But the game won't read a save file with an extra number on the end.)

The saves are numbered in hexadecimal, with eight total digits, including the initial zeroes.  The number in the save name starts at 2 (1 used to be the auto save, but it's not used anymore) and goes through 9, then a to f, and then back to 10, through 19, then 1a through 1f, and back to 20, etc.  But the saves don't have to be numbered in order, so you don't have to worry about getting all the numbers exactly right.  Just make sure there are no duplicates, and that every save ends in .save, and you should be fine.

Thank you so much for your help! I managed to get 3 of my saves back! I think the other saves files got lost at some point but that's okay I'm happy with the three that I have left. Thanks again for answering me!
