Re: Sims 4 game crashing after February update 2024

Hi, I was wondering if I could also get some help for the same problem! I’ve repaired, reinstalled played without mods and none of these stopped the game from randomly crashing. I have tried playing with the clean user folder and it seemed to work; what would you suggest for the next steps? I’ll attach the dxdiag anyway just in case.

@bellamaree01  That's not a great sign.  But you can probably fix the issue with a repair install of Windows, as described here:

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repair-install-windows-10-place-upgrade.html

This shouldn't delete any of your data, but if you get to step 13 and are NOT asked to keep personal files and apps, back out and start over.

In order to be able to create an ISO on your computer, as the guide describes, you'll need at least 20 GB free storage on your computer.  Because your dxdiag crashed while running, I don't know how much you have, but you can check by opening a File Explorer window and clicking This PC in the left panel.  Ideally, you'd have at least 25 GB free to give yourself some wiggle room and for the longer-term health of your computer.  So please clear the requisite amount of space before proceeding with the repair install.

  • @bellamaree01  Thanks for the dxdiag, which shows a number of Sims 4 crashes that might be due to the game running out of memory.  It's impossible to say from the info in the dxdiag though, so the next step is to test your main save in the new user folder, with no mods or custom content present.  (You don't have to save your progress.)  Let me know whether it crashes, and we can go from there.

The dxdiag itself crashed while running.  This could just be a fluke, but it's worth addressing, and I'd also like the missing information.  Please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

If Sims 4 does crash again, please post a new dxdiag.

Here is the error I was given when trying to check the system files:
