Here is where Origin placed the program files, I hope I copied to correct stuff: C:\Users\abihj\OneDrive\Desktop\The Sims 4\Game\Bin

How important is OneDrive? I'm unfamiliar with tech stuff so I'm unsure if I'd need OneDrive to carry out things in the future or if it would mess with anything up if I disable it. Also, if I disable OneDrive, I assume that would stop syncing my program files, so would the game still be playable? I've downloaded the sims through origin on other computers and this has never happened to me.

@Abi_tumblree  Program files are read from your hard drive, not from OneDrive; having a second copy within OneDrive does nothing except occupy space.  The game would not only be playable without OneDrive syncing the files, updating would be a lot more efficient.

It actually sounds like you've listed the synced copy of TS4_x64.exe, as in, the search found the one inside OneDrive, and the original is on your desktop.  That's not the best setup just by itself: it would be better to have the game installed somewhere within Program Files (x86).  You can of course leave it on your desktop, but for various reasons (including but not limited to the ability of OneDrive to sync your desktop data if you want that feature), I'd recommend moving it.

In order to do so, the first step is to completely disable OneDrive.  You can reenable it later, but for now, get it out of the picture.  Restart your computer, open your Origin game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Move Game.  From there, select This PC > C: > Program Files (x86) > Origin Games as the destination, and let Origin move the game's program files.

Once you've done that, you can reenable OneDrive, but be sure to delete whatever Sims 4 program files are in cloud storage.  Or you can leave OneDrive disabled: it's not necessary for anything really, and many of us never use it.  If you do want it running, I'd recommend preventing it from automatically syncing Documents at the very least, as this can interfere with your saves and other user content.

Thank you so much for helping. How do I disable one drive? I've tried researching it and various websites are telling me different ways and I would like to be safe about it.

Nevermind that, I see you've added a link. Thank you!

So I'm running into a bit of difficulty disabling it. I followed the instructions through the link provided as so: Help and Settings>Settings>Account>Choose folders

Then, I unchecked the Sims 4 box and hit okay. First screenshot is the box I unchecked and second is the message I received once hitting "okay".

@Abi_tumblree  Right, that's typical if you try to stop syncing folders that are in the middle of being synced.  That's why you first need to disable OneDrive entirely, as a separate step, then move Sims 4 before OneDrive is reenabled (if it is at all).

If you think you might use it later, follow these steps to "unlink" OneDrive for now, which should prevent anything from syncing and stop the sync already in progress.  It's still a good idea to restart your computer afterwards.

If you can't unlink while data is being synced, stop the syncing first:

Hi! I know this is a really old post but my windows computer just updated and now i cannot de-select onedrive from syncing to my sims4 folder. Before I was able to click on "Choose Folders" and then de-select sims4, but now when i go to Choose Folders I dont even have the option to de-select it as it is a checked white box (I attached a picture). I checked the location of my game in the EA app and it reads 'C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 4'. I dont know what to do as Im a college student and dont want to potentially lose my files from un-installing onedrive. Is there any solution to how I can stop this so I can play with mods?

@LilBel913  If you click the > icons next to Documents and Documents ONEDRIVE, to expand these categories, what do you see?

You can of course get rid of OneDrive, or move the Documents directory out of the OneDrive folder, and not lose any data.  You just have to be careful and deliberate about the process.  Sims 4 will try to use whatever Windows says is the Documents directory.  Your computer has several Documents folders, but only one is designated as the directory, and this is a value you can change the "normal" way or by force if necessary.  For all this, please see the "I want to get rid of OneDrive" section of this guide:

When I try to click the > icons next to Documents it has the same thing for all of the folders, a white checked box that I'm unable to click. I even tried expanding the EA folder but same for all those folders too. And okay, I will check that link soon and get back to you, thank you. I do want to learn how to possibly change the documents directory but I might wait until my semester ends just incase something goes wrong. Thank you for your response!
