Re: Sims 4 refusing to open up after the November patch 2020

@TayloQTI have the same problem too
If I try to pick update/repair it redownloads my entire game, and I have checked many many MANY times that I already have it installed. It takes up lots og Gigabytes

Though I doubt this is a new issue since I've had to reinstall after every update, but I dont currently live at a place with good internet and it has a limit to how much I can use so I cant redownload it now ๐Ÿคจ

I found what I thought was a fix which basically revolved around making a new Origin games folder and it instantly verified all my files.... before redownloading itself again

  • Guess Ill have to reinstall the entire game.

Tried so many different things but nope.

If I press the "play" button origin closes for 1 second before repoening nothing happens.

If I use the Sims shortcut on my desktop it says im missing a .dll file in the core folder (Yes I did re-add the missing dll files. The desktop shortcut is still broken but the .exe itself now works (Kinda) look down below)

If I pick the repair option it will verify the files then start redownloading the entire game

If I run sims from the .exe itself it will go into origin and update the game. It says "Updating" on the download window and starts to download the entire game. Is the patch really 8 GB?? Every single piece of dlc I own is also queued right afterwards.

Kinda disgusting taking into account how much money I've spent on the game and I can't even get my game to work properly. I have had this error before in past updates, never found a solution so I just redownloaded and it worked but I can't redownload now as said

Updated Visual c, restarted, started as admin, moved the sims 4 folder around, deleting files in %Appdata%, tried to repair, tried to update, tried to reinstall origin, tried to remove my mods folder, tried to remove my saves folder, tried updating drivers, tried making a new Origin Games folder. Tried to look in taskmanager if Sims was already running (It was not). Absolutely nothing works at all

  • Ill asume I was just stupid and that the 8gig download actually WAS the update and not a reinstall since Lilsimsie said it was pretty large, though I still do not understand why it decided to queue every single dlc afterwards, I guess that made me think it was broken. But by the time I understood that I had tried so many fixes that Origin just deleted my entire sims game.

No sims for me for a couple of weeks I guess. What a worthless and pathetic client

Hello, if anyone is still running into this error with MSVCP140.DLL or VCRUNTIME140.DLL, can you please send screenshot(s) of the list of "Microsoft Visual C++" Redistributables you have installed? You can find these in the list of installed programs/apps.

  • Here is a screenshot of my Visual C++ files. I cannot open my sims game, I click the icon, it looks like its going to open, then it just sends me back to Origin with the Sims game thing open saying "Play". then I click that and it just goes back

  • @SimQARobo I already have that installed on my laptop. I even tried to download it again and it asked if I wanted to repair or uninstall. I tried the repair and it completed, then I tried to open The Sims and it still isn't opening.

  • @SimQARobo  Followed the instructions, logged back into Origin and it ran through all the packs "finalizing them", then I tried to open the game and it still won't launch.

    @vivalaashleyyy

Have you checked to see if maybe an antivirus tool is blocking the launch of the game?  I heard there were changes to TS4.exe on this recent patch, which may cause antivirus to no longer detect it properly.

  • @SimQARob Okay, so how I finally got it to work was I did the following :

    1. I have only Windows Defender on my PC, I have allowed the sims to make changes and added all the permissions and such as previously requested, but I completely turned off the antivirus system

    2. Restarted my computer

    3. Backed up my save files and tray and uninstalled and reinstalled the game

    4. Restarted my computer and then it finally worked.

I was able to add back in my saves and it looks like everything is good now. thank you so much for all of your help! I hope this helps someone that is having the same issues as me.

  • @SimQARobo Aha, thankyou so much! I went to my anti virus and there was a notification that TS4 had been blocked. I added permissions and now my game is loading! I've been trying to fix this for 2 hours and it was so simple in the end! Thanks again.

@SimQARobowhat changes, exactly? For anyone bypassing their antivirus software is a no no. Running as admin is a further eyebrow raiser. I think some tech people would like full answers please ๐Ÿ™‚

My anti-virus was exactly my issue. It no longer included the game as an exception. I disabled my anti-virus temporarily to diagnose. Re-enabled and finally found the exception list and added TS4 to it.
