@Carlie_M_Cullen There might be a couple different issues here. One is that the game crashes when trying to place a lot that includes mannequins; this is a known bug:
If you're seeing crashes with lots that don't contain mannequins, as a residential lot probably wouldn't, please test in a clean user folder. Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content. (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily not read by the game.) Don't add anything to this folder yet; just start a new save and try placing a lot that doesn't include any mannequins—a Maxis residential lot should be fine.
