wHAT IS THE TRY FOLDER AND HOW CAN YOU PUT THE COPY ONTO ANOTHER COMPUTER?
The Tray folder is where your Sims, houses and community lots are stored. To move that and other Sims 4 files to another computer you can simply copy the Sims 4 folder to a thumb drive and transfer it to the other computer that way.
Then copy the Sims 4 folder from the thumb drive to:
C:\Users\Username\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4
If you want to break it down further here's what needs to be moved:
- Options.ini (User game settings)
- Tray Folder (Sims/Houses/Commercial lots and rooms)
- Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
- Rest of the save games, if any.
(leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave. It is not used anymore.)
- Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, and makeup
- Mods (Put these back one by one to make sure they all still work)Hi there, I have tried this but when I open the game it just says start new game. What have I done wrong?
@onyxxnight Please make sure your saves and other files are in the Sims 4 folder the game is actually reading. Here's how to find it:
https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2018/07/how-to-find-your-user-folder/
For the saves, please also make sure they're named in the proper format: Slot_ followed by an eight-digit hexidecimal (digits 0 to 9, a to f) number followed by .save , with no other characters in the name. If there are extra characters, delete them.
Since this thread is quite old now, I'll lock it here. For anyone experiencing this issue, please try the above, and if it doesn't help, create your own thread in this forum.
