Re: UNABLE TO START ERROR CODE:  [de4ee14f:29f00e7600000000:4b0d852b]

@KellyInMN      Hi! I'm sorry you're having trouble with this. I do think it's a good idea to test the game without mods. Moving the Mods folder out will not delete any of your saves or builds. Please try these steps.

1. Drag your Mods folder to your desktop
2. Delete the localthumbcache.package file located in the Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 folder
3. Run a game repair
- EA app: Click Library > Click the three-dot menu on the TS4 game > Click repair
- Origin: Click Library > Right click on the TS4 game > Click repair
- Allow the repair to run for all packs
4. Launch the game

If the game loads, first try creating a New Save, creating a random sim, and moving them into a cheap house. This is just to be sure that everything is working without your mods and without making any changes to your current save. Then come back and update if everything is working properly.

EDIT: @Caerfinon   I didn't see your post until after I replied.  In this case, I think it might be better to test without mods before trying the factory reset in the thread you mentioned, although it may come down to that depending on what @KellyInMN discovers from testing.

  • @JonaO703@Caerfinon  Man do I ever appreciate your help!!  I am sorry, it took me a day to sit down and work through your awesome directions!
I moved my entire mods folder onto my desktop / I repaired the game in EA and have been able to create a random sim / add a random house / do a few actions / save and exit back to my home screen.

NOW What?  Should I put my mods folder back into my Sims 4 folder or is there something else I should do first?
Would this typically be a mod or script that is broken or is there a way to tell if it needs to be updated?

I so appreciate your easy directions!!
    Kelly

@KellyInMN    That's great news that you were able to get back into the game!  This likely means that it is one (or more) of your mods that is causing the problem.  So, putting the Mods folder back in might cause the problem again.  Before doing anything else, check for updates to your mods / CC.  For example, you mentioned having UI Cheats.  Have you gotten the new update that was released a few days ago?  Check with the creators of all your mods / CC and once you're sure you have the latest version, then you can start testing your mods / CC by adding them back to your game a little at a time.  You'll find that there is a new Mods folder that only contains a resource file.  You can use this new folder for testing in that new save you created.

If you only have a few mods / CC, you might just add them back one at a time and delete the localthumbcache file each time you add a new mod / CC and before you open the game to test.  If you have a lot of mods / CC, perhaps click the spoiler and try the steps I use for testing.  This part can seem a little complicated and tedious, but it will be worth the time and effort to fix your game.

    Spoiler

    1. Create a new game for testing so that your current save is left unchanged until you've identified the problem mods/CC.

    2. Create some folders on your desktop; perhaps one labeled "Tested Safe Mods-CC", another labeled "Mods-CC Needs Testing" and one more labeled "Broken Mods-CC" so you know which ones to check for updates.  This will keep tested mods/CC separated.

    3. Exit the game if you haven't already, and divide your mods/CC in half; put one half in the Needs Testing folder and put/keep the other half into the Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 / Mods folder.

    4. Delete the localthumbcache.package file, located in the Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 folder before opening the game with the half you're testing,

    5. If the game works with that half, exit the game, move that half to the Safe Mods-CC folder and move the remaining "Needs Testing" mods back to the Mods folder to test (Again, delete that cache file before opening the game.)

    6. Once you know which half is causing the issue, divide those in half, keeping one half in the "Needs Testing" folder and one half in your Mods folder, and test again (delete the cache file each time after moving mods/CC and before opening the game) and moving mods/CC not causing problems into the Safe folder.

    7. Repeat this process until you find all that are broken.

If you have any questions or need more help, just come back and post here.  Also please update if you're able to find the problem.

@Jona0703 Another fix thats actually worked instantly for me is to just delete the mods folder even if like me you have no mods and its just an empty folder,  Because upon doing that ... after trying everything including the entire wipe the lot route ... its working ...

Somehow its the "mods folder" on its own causing the de4ee14f:29f00e7600000000:4b0d852b Error and that odd message to go to Origin to "repair it"

nothing is missing or broken you just need to delete the mods folder its self and let the launcher make a new one when you start the game up  🤷‍♂️ and hey presto FIXED

Idk if you're still replying to this post or not but, I'll ask anyways.

What if the three dots on the EA app don't have the option to "repair" because mine doesn't? I don't know if it's because I originally got the game on Steam or not but, Steam says there is nothing wrong with the game files but I'm still getting this error even after moving my mods file and deleting the localthumbcache.
