Re: Weird Game Version txt file

I just updated my game to 1.105.345.1020 last night and noticed this weird GameVersion.txt also.

I did noticed that this opened with UTF-16 LE instead of UTF-8 which is how other .txt files on my computer open.  Thanks to @jpkarlsen for posting the explanation of ANSI encoding.  After reading that I opened it with ANSI by going to File --> Open (or Ctrl + O) and selecting ANSI as the encoding.  And I was able to see the correct numbers.

I really hope they change this back because it's kind of annoying to be opening files this way instead of double clicking them.  And I don't want to download Notepad++ or anything else on my computer if I don't have to.

@AppleBlossom3Huh, how bizarre... But at least everything is in order. I suppose Microsoft ought to get the blame for this one, and not EA (for a change 🤣)

@AppleBlossom3omg you are so right, I knew the encoding looked weird but could not pin point it to which one was there before. I could totally understand what jp said about it. I had no idea if i could open it with a different encoding - didn't think about opening it this way you showed, but chaning it within the file, which I could not figure out how to do. I did now open it this way, just not ANSI but UTF-8, which is for me a default when I open it, and it shows the number. How bizzare. I have no idea why did the encoding change all of a sudden.

@AppleBlossom3 exactly, I am sure it was UTF-8 on all previous txt files for me, and now it is the one you showed as well UTF-16 LE, which honestly I have never even knew about (I am ofc not into coding, encoding or any such type of computer work hahah). Even when I have the game version txt open, and I open another tab, it opens it in UTF-8 😅game version file is the black sheep

I have the same issue since the hot fix patch. I'm on Win 11 64bit. Thought it was a bug, repared game, no change.

All my text file use UTF-8, just this one uses UTF-16 LE. I opened the file and clicked to open with UTF-8. After that I could see the numbers. I then saved the file. On reopen to check it now shows the numbers.

Now we have to wait until the next update to see if the game will save it in UTF-8 or UTF-16 LE again.

@AppleBlossom3it didn't work for a bit in Notepad ++ for some reason, but I tried again and it works with it. But unfortunately, with regular Notepad the usual "save as.." or "open (ansi, utf etc)" doesn't work still.

@ashdelcorno hey, I did say I used it above, and it worked 🙂 it didn't work for a day. But we had other method to open the game file as UTF-8 or ANSI in regular Notepad, but for some reason that doesn't work for me anymore, and I had to reinstall Notepad++ again.
