You could try turning laptop mode off and turning Vsync on and see if it makes a difference to the jagged edges as well as the heat coming from the laptop.
Another thing you could try is disconnecting the monitor before loading the game and checking if the jagged edges are there while using the built-in screen.

Oh my goodness, thank you thank you thank you!!! Turning on Vsync and turning off Laptop mode fixed it!
