reinstalling sims 4 on external SSD after new windows installation question

hello!i've had to reinstall windows on my computer but my game, mods, trays, and saves remain on an external SSD drive.

If i wanted to play again, would i

A - point the ea app to the external ssd drive in settings, plug my external ssd into my computer and launch the game from the ea app

B - follow the method posted by user crinrict (see below) point the ea app to the external ssd drive in settings, plug my external ssd into my computer and launch the game from the ea app.

C - will i have to reinstall sims 4 all over again (including all my packs), then follow the method posted by user crinrict.

i'd really like to not spend the day reinstalling all my packs (it takes well over a day to download every single pack and kit).

method referenced above

  • @xfruitsclipperx  You can't simply point the EA App to your existing Sims 4 install; it doesn't have that function like Origin did (and other game launchers still do).  But you can tell the App to "download" the game to that location, and it may simply verify the files and finalize the install rather than downloading all the data again.  I've had mixed results when testing this myself.

The symbolic link guide on Crinrict's site is for the user folder, and yes, that's what you'd need to do.  Start the game once first to make sure it works.  Then, instead of moving the new Sims 4 user folder to the external, trash it (since it won't have any data worth preserving) and proceed to the step where you create the symlink itself.
