Required update will not download; Sims 4
I too am having an update problem. None of the suggestions I found here worked.
The problem:
The EA app opens. A error box comes up
"! Failed to launch game.
An error on our end caused the launch to fail. Try again a little later."
A required update begins. It never ends. Two days so far.
Information provided on the EA download interface:
"The Sims 4
Downloading % [% varies from 0% to 64%|
h m s [h varies from over 3 to 241899012|
MB / 20.42 GB [Downloaded size varies from 34 to 244 Mb]"
Stated download rate varies from less that 10 kb/s to 250 kb/s (max) to "44.80 undefined/s"

Actions I took:
1. Followed these instructions:
https://help.ea.com/en/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/
"The EA app
Select the three dashes in the far-left corner of the EA app.
Scroll to Help.
Click App recovery.
Select Clear cache."
2. Restarted
Restarted app
Full shutdown, restart computer, restart app
Removed mods from Mods folder, restarted computer, restarted app
3. Checked system. No problems identified.
4. Ran EAUpdater
5. Selected 'offlilne' option on EA app, restarted.
@pigbiter The fastest fix here, and possibly the only one, would be to reinstall the game. If your computer has the space, I'd suggest renaming the existing program files rather than removing them. First, open the EA App, select Sims 3, then Manage > View properties, and you'll see the install location:
Close the EA App and kill the EABackgroundService in the Task Manager. Open that file path and rename the Sims 4 folder. Then restart your computer and create a new folder on the root level of the drive of your choice. For example, C:\Games is fine, but not C:\Program Files\Games. Open the App and download Sims 4 to this folder.
If this works, you can simply delete the old Sims 4 folder. If it doesn't work, close the EA App and kill the EABackgroundService, then copy the files from the old (renamed) Sims 4 folder to the new one. Try again to download; the App may verify the presence of the existing files and only download whatever is necessary for the update. Hopefully.
If you use a third-party antivirus, please leave it disabled while trying to reinstall Sims 4, and don't reenable it until you've tested the game once. As long as you don't do anything else at the same time, your computer should be safe.
