If you use OneDrive then your old folders could be arbitrarily transferred by your computer there.

There may also be an option that you have two game folders in Documents if you downloaded the Legacy Edition together with the patch.
In this case, the game will read only this new, empty LE folder.

Have you checked if you don't have The Sims4 Legacy Edition folder in Documents?
Theoretically, your saves should be moved from the old The Sims 4 folder to this new LE but it turned out that in many cases players had to do it personally.
