Sep 18th 2024 update broke my game

I updated the game after I moved my mods out the mods folder (I only have 100 pieces of cc). I opened the game to enable mods and opened the game again.

Here are the issues I'm having:

1- if a lot does load, it's unbelievably laggy and slow but usually it's stuck on a blue void. Clicking on L to change the time of day takes 30 seconds to register, G to turn off grid takes 1+ minute to load, etc.

2- unable to click on and move objects

3- UI glitching

4- clicking on anything (gallery, save icon, etc) results in entire lot glitching and being stuck in the blue void

It happens with and without CC in the game. All CC is up to date.

I've tried all the regular stuff but nothing is working. Any suggestions?

  • @Txbi89  The obvious issue here is that your laptop is using the Microsoft Basic Display Driver, which is always going to give poor performance.  Your dxdiag says that your processor's graphics chip may have been disabled entirely, which would explain the basic driver and why the game is running so poorly.  So please try to reenable it.

Hit Windows key-X, open the Device Manager, expand Display Adapters, right-click the Radeon entry, and if you see the option to enable it, do so.  Otherwise, choose Properties > Driver and enable it from there.  Restart your computer afterwards.

If this alone doesn't help, try installing the newest driver from AMD:

    https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/drivers.html/processors/ryzen/ryzen-3000-series/amd-ryzen-5-3500u.html

Run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Restart after installing and before trying to play.  If you still notice performance issues, please post a new dxdiag.

The automatic "run as administrator" would show up when you right-click the Sims 4 desktop shortcut and select Properties.

@Cheddarcheys  This update switched computers with Nvidia and AMD graphics to DirectX 11 mode, which means the game is also using the DX11 executable: TS4_x64 rather than TS4_DX9_x64.  So if the latter was allowed in Controlled Folder Access but the former was not, that would explain the issue.

@InnerRevoution7  Thanks for the update, and I'm glad DirectX 9 mode at least is working.  If you'd like to try to figure out why DX11 mode isn't working, please post a dxdiag, and I'll take a look.

Thank you again puzzlezaddict for being a continued HERO!  I just worked up the courage to try again before bothering you with my DxDiag, just in case I could get it to work using the previous info I had gathered from you.  Success -- I am back in again.  Not sure why, but it reverted to dx11 again with the new update, and forcing dx9 cured it again.  So I dont need additional help at the moment, but wanted to thank you because your previous info was the correct answer again.  Im keeping that info very handy for the next update just in case.   Thank you for doing what you do!!  🙂

@puzzlezaddict do you think you can help me fix my game?

here’s all the information you might need:

I have over 7000 mods and my game has been running perfectly fine on my brand new pc. Ever since this latest update, I just can’t get the darn thing to load and it’s incredibly frustrating because I was playing with a legacy family. I removed all the mods, cleared the cache, repaired the game in app, restarted my computer thousands of times and it’s the same thing every time just the blue loading screen but with no plumbob or anything and it’s just frozen like that, so I have to restart my computer. I even uninstalled the game and reinstalled it and the same thing every time. Blue nothingness.

@jessieclif  Please plug your monitor into the graphics card, not the motherboard as you've currently done.  Here's a diagram I like to borrow from someone else:

Hi, I've had issues loading into a household since the update. My game never took long to launch or to load into a household. I even removed my cc and mods.

@Gabbiie_4  Please force Sims 4 to use your Nvidia graphics card, which should also force it to run in DirectX 11 mode.  Right-click the desktop and select the Nvidia Control Panel, choose Manage 3D Settings > Global settings, and choose the high-performance Nvidia processor.  If this helps, you can undo this change and only apply it in Program settings, for TS4_Launcher_x64 and TS4_x64; but please do test the global setting first.

You can see which mode the game is using at the Main Menu, in the lower-right corner.  After the version number, the game will show either DX9 or DX11.

If this doesn't help, please let me know whether you can load a different household within the same save (use Load Game rather than Resume), or a new save, for comparison's sake.
