Sims 3/4 problems

Hello

I just got a new desktop for playing The Sims 3 and The Sims 4, but I can't seem to make them work properly.

  1. When I launch Sims 3 it shows a black screen with a white stripe (partial maxis logo), I then have to go to desktop (windows key) and maximize the game again, which will make it continue to launch normally.
  2. There is also a problem with "save and exit", whenever I use the save and exit option, the game seems to save but then freezes while closing, showing a black screen with a grey border and the loading icon in the middle. However there seems to mostly be no problem when first saving and then closing the game. I also have this problem with Sims 4. Except for these problems Sims 3 seems to work fine.
  3. 25 minutes into playing Sims 4 the screen turned black, went to desktop, then back into the game showing a white screen with only the cursor, then went back to normal in the game but with no sound on. I then closed and opened the game again, and it was back to normal with sound on, only for it to do it again. I then tried closing the game again but it froze with the menu showing. After this I tried getting the game to create a new Sims 4 folder, however the problem was still there and now the game also started lagging. I then tried to open the game again today to save my builds to library so I could make a backup of them, but the whole computer just froze so I had to reboot it.

I am not sure what the problem is or how to fix it. I am playing on ultra settings and turning them down to high only seemed to make a tiny difference. I would think that my computer should be able to at least play with settings on high. As far as I can tell my graphics driver is updated. I've heard something about DirectX versions, but I have no idea what, how or why when it comes to that and I don't know what else to look for.

It looks like you have an overheating problem Remove dust and make sure the fans are working. ASUS will have some monitoring software you can use to see temperatures and other info.

  • @jpkarlsen According to the AMD Radeon Software program the GPU temp doesn't get over 50 °C before the computer freezes. It is also brand new not even a week old, so I don't think dust is the problem. I'm currently trying to test with other games to see if it is only a Sims 4 problem.

Repairing Sims 4 seems to have solved the problems for that game, not sure why it didn't work the first time I tried. Either that or I did something I'm not aware of :D

    Edit: it did not work
