Sims 4 Battery Usage

I used to always leave the Sims 4 open, just running in the background of my computer. At night, I just close the computer lid (it is fully charged) and when I wake up, the battery is dead. Is this a computer issue, or does the Sims 4 use battery at night? The past two nights, the Sims 4 has not been running on my computer, and the computer still has battery in the morning. To me it seems that the Sims 4 is at fault, not the computer itself, but any input would be appreciated. Why would the Sims 4 be using so much battery? Should I still take the computer in to be checked?

Thanks in advance! 🙂

  • @KarlaO22  Games use a lot of battery.  Even when your laptop's lid is closed, the computer is still running and still has the game fully loaded and ready to play.  The processor and graphics card both draw much more power when running a game than when idle or just juggling a few browser windows, and while the draw would be less with the laptop lid closed, it would still be higher than normal.  This is not specific to Sims 4 but would likely be true of almost any game.

Also, batteries wear down.  It sounds like yours doesn't have enough capacity to make it through the night anymore, at least not with the game still open.  That doesn't mean the battery is bad, just that it's not new.

By the way, I would never leave a game running overnight, whether I used sleep mode or closed the laptop lid.  Even under ideal circumstances, it's going to hurt performance, and it can cause crashes or lag or introduce other errors that I'd rather not have to address.  If loading times are long, it's easy enough to start the process and then check email or have a cup of tea or something.

I've closed it and the battery has been holding! Thank you!

  • I know that this is like 2 years old, give or take, but I've done the same, except that I put my laptop in hibernation mode, meaning that, whether The Sims 4 is running or not, the amount of battery drained is reduced due to the laptop being put in hibernation mode, much like the Vampires in said Game Pack - Vampires Game Pack - can hibernate in coffins.

My point is, if you ever do leave The Sims 4 running overnight, instead of just closing the lid, put it in hibernation mode, then close the lid, but like @puzzlezaddict said, it might be your laptop not being able to do as such anymore, how old is/were your computer 2 years ago, because that might be why
