I haven't tried anything yet other than removing mods from the folder, removing excess cache files, and verifying the integrity of the files in Steam, but there doesn't seem to be much point in trying anything else. So I guess we'll just have to hope they release a patch update. This is unbelievable to me. Today, for the first time in days, I was excited to play... But the thing that scares me the most is that I'm going to lose my save positions. I've been creating a story for my readers for the second year now, I have over 65 episodes. I'd be really sorry to see that happen.
You can try moving the files inside the saves folder out one by one, starting with the most recently modified one, to see if it can be recovered. Unfortunately, after I moved out my main save — which I had been playing for years — everything worked again. But it was meaningless, because all my creations were gone. I have to start all over again.

Thank you, I will probably try this as a last resort unless someone comes up with another idea or EA releases a patch update. I really hope they do. A few people have written that they tried to remove the save files and the game keeps crashing, so maybe the bug is somewhere else and maybe they'll fix it. If they don't, it would definitely be very sad if we all wasted years of playing. Is this what we pay them so much money for? To then lose what we love because of their update? If the update is indeed to blame, but until those two days ago, everything worked for me without any problems.
