Sims 4 Crashes Instantly On Startup
Hello everyone! I've been having an issue with the Sims 4 crashing for the past couple days and nothing I do seems to fix it. I'm hoping I can find some help here. I apologize for the lengthy post.
I'm on Windows 10 on a desktop playing with mods/cc and Reshade, though I've removed them for now. My game's version is: 1.55.108.1020.
Basically every time I hit "Play" on Origin to start the Sims 4, it will open the program and close it immediately after 1-2 seconds. All I see is a white screen. It does this even if I open TS4.exe or TS4_x64.exe. It does this regardless of whether I'm playing directly on my desktop or streaming the game to my laptop with Parsec/Steam. I'm also able to run other games through Origin.
I didn't notice this issue until recently as I haven't played in a few months. I bought Realm of Magic, installed it, and then this problem started happening. I don't know if it's the game pack, an update, Origin, or something else.
I was able to get it working for a couple hours last night after reinstalling both the game and Origin, as well as allowing it to create a new Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 folder. None of these worked until I tried turning off Origin In-Game Overlay, which magically solved my problem. I was able to play with no problem with both my mods folder and Reshade applied until I closed the game.
I decided to start it up again tonight and my problem is back, same instant crash as before. The fix from before hasn't worked and neither has anything else I've tried, so I don't know what to do.
From what I can remember, I have tried:
- removing mods/cc and Reshade
- turning off Origin's In-Game Overlay
- running Origin in offline mode
- repairing/updating my game
- clean booting
- creating a new Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 by letting the game generate a new one
- reinstalling Origin
- reinstalling the Sims 4
- updating my graphics card drivers
- updating Windows 10
- adding exceptions to Malwarebytes and the default Windows Security firewalls/antivirus
- running base game
- running in windowed mode
Oh, and I added in my lastcrash.txt and dxdiag.txt files as I saw it was recommended to do. I hope it helps!
I'm sorry for taking so long to reply! I ended up finding out what was wrong, and thankfully it didn't have to do with the Windows update or Origin.
I used a program called Rivatuner Statistics Server to help control framerate with the Sims 3. I didn't realize when I clean booted previously that it never got turned off as it didn't show in my startup programs or services. It turns out that when turned on, it stops the Sims 4 from starting up and makes it crash! I've tested multiple times over today and yesterday, and it consistently makes the game crash when turned on. So thankfully all I need to do to play normally is just keep it off.
Thank you both for your time and help!
