Sims 4 crashes when loading into household/starting new game

Howdy,

So my (or rather, my gf's issue) is that ever since the Discover University expansion has been released, she hasn't been able to play the game whatsoever.

What happens is that the game itself launches (although not without issues - if it's in full screen mode, it crashes immediately upon launch, but if changes within the options.ini file, the game launches fine) and the menu loads correctly, however, that is pretty much it.

If she wants to load her household - the game loads and eventually the FPS's drop down to ~2 and the game crashes

If she wants to load any other of her saves - the same happens

If she wants to start a new game - the same happens as soon as the Create-A-Sim menu loads

I have done pretty much everything I could, from repairing through her Origin and changing the in-game resolution, through checking the full screen, windowed full screen and windowed modes and ending at reinstalling the game, cleaning the registry keys and removing all save files, etc.

What is worth mentioning is that the Legacy (32 bit) version works totally fine and has no issues at all.

I am also attaching the DxDiag I did just now and FYI - the system is running on the 64 bit Windows 10.

Thank you in advance!

Found a fix on another question - I uninstalled the two programs and now my sims works.

"If you have RivaTuner Statistics Server and/or MSI Afterburner installed, please disable them while you play."

  • Hi there,

Sadly, I've done everything that was recommended (so used the DDU with the recommended settings + checking all the NVIDIA options to make sure everything is completely removed and making sure that the internet connection is off during the process.

The uninstallation went flawlessly, so did the Nvidia drivers, but the issue still persists.

Thank you for that idea though! @jpkarlsen

I'm attaching the fresh Dxdiag just in case.

I am here for the same exact reason. I have tried everything to fix this and nothing works. Hopefully an answer comes up on here!

That sounds promising - my computer that my gf plays on actually has two of those installed, so I will do that tomorrow and let know of the result 🙂

Cheers for that and fingers crossed!

I have tested this solution and it seems that it really worked, which I find amazing!

Well, this means that the case is closed - thank you @Jolley1013 so much and everyone else looking into it 🙂

    Cheers!
