Sims 4 Crashing Since Updates

I haven't played in a while, so today I did the update + purchased Home Chef Hustle + For Rent + the free Romantic Garden pack

Since then, the game repeatedly crashes either before it gets to the home screen or when I try load a family.

Things I've tried:

  1. Repairing the installation (twice)
  2. Clearing the EA app cache
  3. Deleting the Sims 4 folder so it can respawn (three times)
  4. Removing all mods
  5. Adding back one by one
  6. Updating my PC
  7. Restarting my PC

I have pretty much all the packs, just a few here and here (mostly CAS ones) that I don't have.

    @crazysheepie  I specifically linked the drivers from Intel and Nvidia because the drivers Asus was offering weren't nearly new enough.  If you saw an error when trying to install either of the drivers I linked, please post a screenshot.  I can't actually see what driver versions you have installed because your dxdiag crashed while running, so I'd like a new one after you do the following.

    Your new dxdiag shows one new Sims 4 crash, still with a breakpoint error.  There are also a bunch of new crashes that are different kinds of generic Windows errors, so please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

    Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

    @crazysheepie  Thanks so much for the dxdiag and for all the troubleshooting you've done so far.  The dxdiag itself lists a number of Sims 4 crashes, all with a breakpoint error.  This type of error has a few different causes, but in your case, I suspect the graphics driver, or perhaps both of them: the Intel driver is from 2016 and the Nvidia driver from 2018.  So I'd start there.  Update the Intel driver first:

    Then the Nvidia driver:

    Run each driver as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Restart your computer after installing each one.  In the case of the Nvidia driver, choose the Custom (not Express) install method, and choose the option to perform a clean install.  Test Sims 4 when you're done, still with your user data removed.

    Thank you! This seems to have worked. I had to install the graphics drivers from the laptop manufacturers site (asus), but your answer put me on the right track. Will keep playing and testing it out.

    Ok, seems I was too quick there 😞 i can now load into my saves and play around, but crashes after about 10-15 minutes, wondering if maybe my laptop just can't handle the game with this many packs/size? Its always run a little slowly, but never crashed like this before

    Reattaching an updated dxdiag if thats helpful

    Hi @puzzlezaddict apologies for delay in response.

    When I first tried the links you shared I got an error message saying something along the lines of the hardware being locked by the laptop manufacturer .

    however, I tried again after your last post and they downloaded

    i also followed the steps you outline above, all ran smoothly with no errors! 

    game seems to now work fine, I haven’t put my saves back in case they were part of the issue. Will

    just start anew
