Sims 4 crashing

My Sims 4 has been crashing since downloading the Lovestruck patch.  Here are some of the things I've tried as I've tried for fix it:

  • Removed mods
  • Repaired the game
  • Started a new save and manually removed the old save's data
  • Completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game
  • Updated graphics drivers
  • Fresh install of graphics drivers
  • Played on a different windows profile as a fresh save
  • Disabling the antivirus
  • Launching from the NVIDIA control panel instead of the EA app

Each of these have also involved multiple restarts and trying various combinations of these together.  I have also tried all of the above after a fresh restart before opening any other programs.

There's no common themes about when the game crashes.  Sometimes it crashes as it's launching, sometimes crashes when completely paused and nobody is even sitting at the keyboard, sometimes when actions are happening.  I don't get any kind of errors when it crashes, it just returns to the EA launch screen.  My computer exceeds the minimum specs for the game.

  • @caleser  When paired with a newer K-series CPU, the Sims 4 crashes in your dxdiag are often related to default overclocking settings from the motherboard.  Many boards have had BIOS updates to fix this issue, so please try updating yours.  I believe this is your model:

But double-check before trying to install the newest BIOS.  You can see the model number on the board itself, or on the box it came in or the documentation you received from the system integrator if you didn't build it yourself.

If this doesn't help, please boot into the BIOS and look for a setting called CPU Turbo Boost or similar, likely hidden in Advanced settings.  Disable that and see whether it helps.
