Sims 4 Flashes and crashes to desktop - won't launch

Hi there. I purchased a new computer today and came home and the first thing i did was download origin and my favourite game, TS3. I was disappointed when I was unable to get the stupid game to load, and was forced to try TS4. Sadly, after spending HOURS googling why that won't work either, i have given up... My disappointment has turned to major frustration ☹️ Can someone help me?

I have not yet downloaded any mods or CC, and my antivirus is the only thing that has been installed - eAcceleration stopsign. I have disabled antivirus but this has not helped.

I have tried a lot of different things i have read here and on other sites - most of it has gone over my head, being i know very little about any of it lol

Please, can anyone help me get my games - TS3 and/or TS4 to work?

Thank you in advance, Jolee

  • @Jaelle75  There's no obvious explanation in your dxdiag for why Sims 4 is crashing.  So as a test, please install Origin:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Origin-Client-Web-Technical/Downloading-and-installing-Origin-Windows-and-Mac/m-p/11915666

Open your game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, select Move Game, and choose a new folder for the game, preferably one you've created yourself.  Let Origin complete the process, then right-click on the Sims 4 icon again and select Repair.

If that doesn't help, please let me know whether OneDrive is running, even if you're not using it.  Please also let me know the default location of Documents.  Open a File Explorer window, right-click Documents in the left panel, select Properties > Location, and post the location.  You can write [username] instead of your actual username if you want, but leave the rest of the file path intact, and let me know if the username you see is NOT the one you use to sign into Windows.

The Sims 3 error is a known issue with 12th-gen Intel processors.  The workaround is to limit the game to one CPU core as it starts loading.  The various ways to do this are explained in the accepted solution in this thread:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-PC/Sims-3-won-t-open-Alder-Lake-Intel-12th-gen-CPU/td-p/11057820

It's not necessary to run the game or the launcher in compatibility mode, so please remove that setting if you haven't already.

Good morning @puzzlezaddict  Thank you so much for you response.

It's amazing what fresh eyes does after spending the whole day trying to get the game to work!

I opened origin this morning, and noticed that i had a copy of the base game that i purchased when the game was first released and a copy of digital delux that had installed itself. I was trying to play througg the DD version, which was not working. I tried it with the original base version, and it worked! A whole day wasted!

I will install TS3 again and try the work around you mention. FIngers crossed!!

    Thank you again,

    Jolee.
