Sims 4 freezes on exit

I just got a new gaming PC and was assured that the sims would run on it. But every single time I exit the game (regardless of save and exit or just exit) it freezes. I can't close it through the task manager either because the sims is stuck on top of everything else.

Drivers etc all up to date, diag info attached.

  • @Tarryn_Rich  First of all, you can hit ctrl-alt-delete and choose to sign out, which should boot you back to the Windows login screen while closing all running apps.  This is better for your computer than forcing a shutdown.

For the problem itself, does this happen if you play while your computer is completely offline?  This isn't a solution, just a useful test.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode before launching Sims 4.  The Gallery won't be available, but the game should otherwise run as normal.

Your dxdiag doesn't show any particular reason for the problem, but that's not uncommon: freezes or hangs often don't leave an error message.  It just means we need to look elsewhere.

  • yeah i get this too. no matter which exit method - in game, save and exit - save and nav to main menu then exit - exit direct no save. freezes every time. no onedrive auto saves, not even on my home network, so no connectivity issues. no antivirus in background running scans... i'm at a loss!! so sick of having to hard reboot. i've had to FOUR TIMES in the past 3 hours because of a linked audio issue which cuts the audio when i reconnect my headphones... UGHHHHHHHH

@mariahfish  Does this happen if you're playing in a clean Sims 4 folder with no added content at all?  Please test if you haven't already: move the Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop so the game creates a new fodler, then start a new save without adding anything to that new folder.  I'm not saying you need to get rid of your existing content, only that this is a useful test.  It would also be useful to find out that you couldn't move the folder, that you got an error when trying or that the folder copied rather than moving.
