Sims 4 got for free on Origin, want to purchase on Steam

Hi,

I got the basic version of the Sims 4 for free on Origin as part of an offer a couple of years ago, I haven't bought any DLC for it.

It's currently for sale on Steam, I want to buy it and some DLC on that platform before the sale ends. Am I able to do this? As I know it needs to link to my Origin account, will the existing free copy cause issues?

  • @Philthy_Beast No, the free version will not cause any issues. Do you just have the base game on Origin ?

If you play they steam version you will have both the DLC from Steam and the ones you have on Origin. If you play the Origin version you will only see the packs owned on Origin.

Starting the game will start the version you have last installed. So if you plan to buy it on steam, you will need to reinstall the game from steam (backup your saves) but only the base game. Origin might say it doesn't have any of the packs you own after that but you can just click download on Origin for those and they will then be availble in the game)
  • I don't have any DLC on Origin, just the base game.

I will play the game on Steam after I buy it there, I don't really have any savegames so will probably start from scratch anyway.
