I keep getting this message whenever I open try to open the game: Unable to start: The Sims 4 is already running. [ed35e0ea:29f00e76:00000000:18a1dd51]
I have tried EVERYTHING on the other posts, even posts outside EA, but nothing is working. I bought Origin Access to play The Sims 4, but all I get is this error message. I
tried sharing The Sims 4 folder, I tried repairing the game through Origin, I renamed the folder, I ran it on Windows 8&7 compatibility mode, I moved the folder, I checked my
task manager for any running processes, I restarted my computer several times, but NOTHING! I am trying to avoid reinstalling the game because my wifi is incredibly slow.
Any help would be appreciated because all I want to do is play the freaking game I paid for! The problem is not with Origin because all the other games are working fine.
[I am running Windows 10 BTW]

I had this problem myself and I figured out the culprit was my antivirus. I have Bitdefender and it kept blocking Sims from running. I had to go in and specifically allow the application (through safe files - Application access). This might not be the case for you; but I never found that solution myself when I had been searching.

How do you do that because I have bitdefender and I don't know how to do what you said
- crinrict8 years agoHero+
this is something I found googling but I don't know what version of Bitdefender this is as I'm not using it myself: https://www.bitdefender.com/support/how-to-add-application-or-process-exclusions-in-bitdefender-control-center-1119.html
You want to exclude Origin.exe and ts4.exe in programs(x86)\Origin_Games\thesims4\game\bin (path may vary depending on your installation)

It's better to just stick to one thread.
- Anonymous8 years agoNormally this is because you keep on clicking the Sims be careful of this and try to only click it once even if your have to right click on the Sims and administrator run the client

Feb 9 2019. Brand new purchase & first time install of Origin and The Sims4. Windows 10
The common theme in this topic is that Windows is denying the game to run. It seems the problem is Windows Permissions.
The error message says that the game is already running, that is false, the problem is the game is missing permission to run. After experience with Sims2 + Sims3, this is EXACTLY the kind of mistake Electronic Arts has made before.Every person may experience a slightly different solution than this. Because the problem is permissions, everyone's security settings maybe different. Here is the solution that worked for me:
1 Windows Security Centre
2 goto "allow an app through Controlled folder access"
- from Security Centre, open Virus & Threat Protection, open Ransomware Protection, click Allow An App.
- or from the search bar you can type "allowed apps" and it should get you there.
3 click the + sign to Add An Allowed App
4 navigate to your file folder with "Origin.exe" and add that. (IE: C:\Games\Origin\)
4 navigate to your file folder with "TS4_x64.exe" and add that. (IE: C:\Games\Origin\The Sims 4\Game\Bin\)
5 close the Origin lancher app, including from TaskManager, to make sure its not still in the background.
6 Run: TS4_x64.exeHope this helps someone.
Even if your steps are different on your computer, the idea is Windows Security is the problem.
Good Luck- 7 years ago
Thank you. This worked for me. I didn’t even think of the ransomware protections.

I was having this issue too and i went into game properties through origin, advanced, and changed the "when launching this game, launch in" to 32 from 64 then i opened the game and it worked for me.

I had this same issue after updating my mac to Catalina. Go to Finder>documents>Electronic Arts> find the file UserData.Lock> move file to your trash> empty your trash then try to relaunch the game.
