sims 4 keeps crashing

my game keeps crashing and i am at a loss at how to get it workiong right. ive tried taking out all mods and cc and have made a new sims 4 folders, tried repairing the game, tried on dx9, tried lowering the graphics in game. not sure what else to try, any ideas? any advice would be welcome.

  • @ChAoTiCxDrEaMeRz  These errors are the same as before: an "illegal instruction" and a generic access violation.  Do you have any overclocks enabled?  If you manually overclocked a component, or used a tool to do it for you (even GeForce Experience has a built-in overclocking setting), please remove that and try again.  And please confirm that CPU Turbo Boost, or whatever it's called, and XMP are still disabled.

If that doesn't help, or isn't relevant, it's worth doing a repair install of Windows just to make sure the issue isn't coming from the OS.  Here's how (option two):

    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/repair-install-windows-11-with-an-in-place-upgrade.418/#Two

This is a relatively quick process, and it shouldn't delete any of your data, but if you get to step 14 and are NOT asked to keep personal files and apps, back out and start over.

  • @ChAoTiCxDrEaMeRz  Please try disabling XMP and CPU Turbo Boost, both in your computer's BIOS.  XMP should be easy to find; CPU Turbo Boost will likely be hidden deep within the Advanced settings.  They may have slightly different names as well, for example another user with an Asus board said XMP was labeled DOCP for some reason.  Point is, get both settings, then test Sims 4 again, in DirectX 11 mode.

If this helps, you can look for a BIOS update for your motherboard.  Updates to fix stability issues on this platform have been rolling out for a couple months now, but not every board has received one.  I can't tell in your case because your dxdiag doesn't list your exact model, but if you google the model number, you'll find the Asus support page along with drivers and other software.  Your current BIOS version is 1402.

If this doesn't help, please test a new save in another clean Sims 4 folder.  If that doesn't help either, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

@ChAoTiCxDrEaMeRz  Please try playing in a clean boot:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.

Please continue to use a clean Sims 4 folder (nothing of your previous content in it), and keep XMP and CPU Turbo Boost disabled for now.

If you get yet another crash, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash, specifically in the clean boot.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

@ChAoTiCxDrEaMeRz  The older error (last one you posted) looks like the typical errors from ReShade/GShade or some Razer apps.  So if you have any of these, please uninstall them and try again.

The newer error is a bit strange—I don't see it much in Sims 4.  Since it happened in a clean boot, the next step would be to do a clean uninstall and reinstall of Sims 4 and the EA App, as described here:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/PC/CURRENT-ISSUE-Sims-4-DLC-shows-as-installed-won-t-load-in-game/m-p/12942151#uninstall

To cover multiple possibilities, please reinstall the game on D.  I realize it's a slower drive than C, but this is a helpful test.
