Sims 4 keeps crashing

I need help figuring out as to why my game keeps crashing. it runs the gameplay well for a few minutes then it lags and crashes. I own all expansion packs, game packs and stuff packs. I own a few mods but those aren't the problem. Whenever I open up the task manager it shows me that it the memory usage is high along with "CPU".

Now I'm not good at figuring out what's wrong so I need assistance, what is going on and what do I do to fix it? I'll put my specs in at the bottom.

  • @makinkina  Unfortunately, the crash dump doesn't have much helpful information that wasn't in the dxdiag; the crash is just a breakpoint error.  So there are two things I'd suggest.  The first is to install a newer graphics driver, that is if you can—HP sometimes blocks newer drivers that don't come directly from HP.  You can try to find one there by going to this site:

    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/laptops

entering your laptop's serial number, and looking for a new driver under Driver-Graphics.  You're specifically looking for an Intel graphics driver with a version number higher than 27.20.100.8853 (your current driver) for example anything that starts with 30 rather than 27 would be newer.  The current driver is dated October 13, 2020, but you might find that a supposedly more recent driver has the same version number, so check both.  And if you're not sure what you're looking at, please link the driver download page.  That page itself doesn't contain any information about your own computer, just the overall model.

The other suggestion I have is to increase the size of your computer's page file, which was almost entirely used when you ran the dxdiag.  When a computer runs out of physical memory (RAM), it sends extra data it's not using in that exact moment from RAM to the page file and recalls it when necessary, but it can't do this effectively if the page file is also full.  And with only 4 GB installed RAM, your computer will need to use the page file at least to some extent while you're playing Sims 4.

Hit Windows key-i, select System > About > Advanced system settings, then click Settings under Performance, then Advanced, then Change under Virtual memory.  Uncheck the box to automatically manage the size, then set the initial size to 8000 and the max to 8192, click OK, and restart your computer.  This guide has helpful screenshots:

To be clear, you're eventually following the option in step 6 of that guide, not the later steps.

@makinkina First thing I notice is you have very little free space on your boot storage device. Frr up some space and see if that helps.

  • @makinkina  Are you getting BlueScreens while you play?  I see several BSODs listed in your dxdiag, all with the same cause: a component of the Windows graphics system is crashing.  This should be addressed regardless, but I'm curious to know when the BlueScreens happen.

Please also upload a Sims 4-related crash dump, if you have one.  Click Windows key-R and copy and paste this:

    %LocalAppData%\CrashDumps

When you enter, you'll see a list of .dmp files.  If you see one with Sims 4 in the name, please upload it to a third-party filehosting site (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) and link it here.  If you see a crash dump that was written at exactly the time the game crashed, I'd like that too.

You don't need to clear more space on your computer.  28 GB free is enough to rule out free space as the cause of the crashes.
