Sims 4 lagging even without mods

Yesterday my game began running poorly and lagging while playing, in CAS, and in the menu. I pulled all of my data onto my desktop so that I could have a fresh start and it was still lagging. I first noticed this problem after I installed the latest GeForce Game Ready Driver, I also noticed that my mouse cursor was able to move smoothly in comparison to everything else being very choppy. The last thing I'd like to note is that at the very least on my end is that The Sims 4 brings back an error code 500 some of the time when I try to open up the EA app which is leading me to believe it may not entirely be a problem with my laptop.

@ManyFrontiersman  That's good to hear.  It's possible that this was a temporary problem with EA servers that has since cleared up.  Let me know if the problem returns or you need any other help.

  • It also appears that I am stuck in offline as well because if I try to go onto the gallery I'll just remain trying to connect until exit to do something else.
  • @ManyFrontiersman  Thanks for the dxdiag, which shows a couple of errors related to the Nvidia graphics driver; the Sims 4 errors could be related to the driver as well.  So the best place to start is by clean-uninstalling and reinstalling the driver.  Here's how:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

When reinstalling the driver, please use the one Acer offers for your laptop rather than the newest version.  You can always update later, but with a new-ish laptop, it's typically best to try the manufacturer-provided driver first.  You can find that driver here, labeled "VGA Driver (RTX 3050 Ti)":

    https://www.acer.com/us-en/support/product-support/AN515-57/downloads?suggest=Nitro%205%20%3E%20AN515-57;1

Please also make sure Sims 4 is using your 3050 ti rather than the integrated Intel chip.  Launch the game once after reinstalling the driver, then go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and open Config.log.  You'll see the graphics card the game is using listed about 30 lines down.  Let me know what you find.

For the Gallery being unable to connect, please see this thread:

  • @puzzlezaddictI have finished clean-uninstalling and reinstalling my drivers and here's what I have to say. TS4 is running on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU as it always has because I made sure to do that when I first got the game. My game is still offline and laggy, I will try to follow the troubleshooting steps to see if they work. I also tried reinstalling the EA app to see if that would fix the error message I get but that does not appear to have worked.

@ManyFrontiersman  Does the game lag if you play while your computer is offline?  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disconnect from the internet before pressing Play.  I'm wondering if the lag is caused by the failure to connect, and being offline would circumvent that process.

  • @puzzlezaddict It does appear that putting it into offline mode before starting does make the game run smoother. It might look like there's a slight drop in frames but it's very miniscule and I could just be making it up.

It appears that my game is perfectly normal again, it's runs smoothly and I have access to the gallery. The EA app is still acting up but at least the problem I care more about seems to be fixed. If I have any problems in the next 24 hours I'll update here.
