Sims 4 laggy :((

I took a long break from the sims 4 and I’m slowly trying to get back into it, but my fps are so low ☹️(( i have a nividia gtx 1060, and most of my setting are actually set to low (in hopes of better performance). I’ve tried remove (the small amount) of cc and mods I have, cleared cache several times (I’ve also cleared origin cache a few times), I’ve even uninstalled the game, and when I first opened the game after that I think it ran okay, but now I have constant lag spikes and low fps again. I don’t remember my game being this laggy before. I was planning on buying cottage living this month, but I’m having second thoughts because it would be a shame to spend money on it if the game continues to run this poorly.

I might finally have found the solution: my computer was overheating. I cleaned my fans (which was incredibly dirty), and my game performance seem to have improved. Thank you to all the people trying to help me

I have a similar problem since some time now. The game shows severe lag spikes at times, most prominently while using the build mode. Whenever I enter the build mode there are spikes of very awful lags. I discovered two things that help against those lag spikes:

    a) save the game while in build mode. The lags are gone for me after that.

    b) hit the Esc-Key on the keyboard (once to open the sub-menu and a second time to close it again). This - absurdly enough - gets rid of the lag spikes in build mode for me.

If you haven't already I'd recommend to try those solutions. I can't remember though if they work in live mode as well - the spikes aren't as bad in live mode for me.

Between the first time I realized the lag spikes and the day I tried the Esc-key solution I factory-reset the game twice, made a full clean reinstall once (during which I removed every sims-related folder and file on my computer that I could find), updated my windows and my graphics card and run the game with a new save and without any mods, all because of another bug I had (the now fixed broken social profile bug) . None of that fixed the lag spikes though. I still have them. I run the game on an AMD Card (for many years now), on a desktop computer.

Of course those solutions are just workarounds. They don't solve the reason why the spikes are happening in the first place.

  • @Naodyr Unfortunately I don’t feel like these tips works for me ☹️( and my lag is also quite bad in live mode and not just build. But thank you

First of all, i'm sorry for the late replay.
i hope i did it right.
when i first opened the game, it actuelly ran okay but then after just a short period of time it went downhill, and at last it didn't seem to be able to get above 20 fps. I barely spend any time in cas (chose a random soom from the bin), and i spend really short time in build/buy to place a pool (yes, i tried to drown someone) but whenever i entered build/buy the fps dropped to 2-4 fps (i didn't get to see if it got up when staying i build, cause i only spend a few seconds in build), but most of my time was spend in live mode.
