Sims 4 overheating

When I first purchased the Sims 4 it would overheat within seconds of loading. So I bought an external laptop cooler which didn't help at all. I then went for a more expensive, more powerful cooler which still doesn't help; I get a few minutes this time but I still cannot play the game.

Is there any way of troubleshooting this?

I've tried adjusting the graphics to low and setting it to laptop mode but nothing makes any difference.

Also; due to this issue, am I entitled to a refund? There's no point in me having the game if it doesn't work!

Again how old is the laptop? The internal cooler may be clogged with lint (and/or real animal dander). You usually can not see this and the laptop usually has to be taken apart to be cleaned. This is a very common problem for people who use their laptop in (on) bed especially if you have a pet (cat/dog) that sleeps on the bed. Laptop coolers are usually small and it doesn't take a lot to block it and cause over heating.

Also what kind of computer are you playing on?

I'm using a Toshiba laptop and I have recently updated the game.
Feels like I've tried everything :-/

What is the model of the Toshiba? Is it new? The cooling system may be clogged.

Make sure the vents are not clogged and that the vents have enough room to draw in air. If this persists, you may want to purchase a cooling mat for your laptop.

That's the problem. I have gone through two different laptop coolers; they both have legs so the laptop is well elevated. Neither of them has made any difference.
I can't think of anything else to try.

Oh right, thank you, we do have a dog in the house.
My laptop is only 2 years old.
Will this need to be done professionally or can anyone take it apart?

You can do it yourself, but be careful.
This is a simple way:

Also you can take out the screws and get the dust and hairs out.
Just be careful with what you touch.
And make sure your don't have any warranty left, because that expires when you open the laptop up yourself.

I'll add as a general disclaimer (having done it myself for a handful of laptops with varying degrees of success) that if you go this route you'll want to be using some sort of small container for your screw, and the best way to go about it if you're not sure is to take pictures with a camera phone as you go about opening it up.

This way, you'll make sure you have a reference when you end up with 3 extra screws and have no idea where they go. 😛

Mine is doing the same thing, I load it and within seconds it is overheating and making the computer run hard so I have to get off the computer for quite awhile. (I have a 4 year old computer)
