Sims 4 overheating

When I first purchased the Sims 4 it would overheat within seconds of loading. So I bought an external laptop cooler which didn't help at all. I then went for a more expensive, more powerful cooler which still doesn't help; I get a few minutes this time but I still cannot play the game.

Is there any way of troubleshooting this?

I've tried adjusting the graphics to low and setting it to laptop mode but nothing makes any difference.

Also; due to this issue, am  I entitled to a refund? There's no point in me having the game if it doesn't work!

  • Again how old is the laptop? The internal cooler may be clogged with lint (and/or real animal dander). You usually can not see this and the laptop usually has to be taken apart to be cleaned. This is a very common problem for people who use their laptop in (on) bed especially if you have a pet (cat/dog) that sleeps on the bed. Laptop coolers are usually small and it doesn't take a lot to block it and cause over heating.

If you have a local computer repair shop, they could most certainly clean the fuzz and stuff from your computer. More than likely, this is causing your computer to heat up much faster due to the vents being clogged with dust and/or animal fur.

I have a Toshiba too and it overheaded but after a few weeks it was normal.
  • Another couple of tips regarding laptop computers.

    1) Never play in bed with the computer sitting directly on a pillow or your comforter. This blocks the air vents and prevents the computer from cooling properly and can cause it to overheat.

    2) If your laptop is overheating, check the vents to make sure they are clean. Dust, pet fur and fluff can clog up the vents as well.

    3) Consider investing in a cooling pad. These can help your laptop to stay cool even if you follow steps 1 & 2.

    4) Play the game on lower settings. Laptops are not gaming computers no matter what OS you run. While some laptops are advertised as being gaming computers, they usually aren't as powerful as a desktop model. Also make sure you get plenty of RAM (at least 8GB) to insure that most games will run correctly. The more content you add, no matter if it's EPs/SPs/GPs or CC or Mods, your computer will struggle to run the game unless you have plenty of memory.
