Sims 4 packs & game error

Hey,

I’m dealing with a Sims 4 issue that’s driving me up the wall, and I’m hoping someone can help because nothing I try is working. Let me break it down.

I originally bought The Sims 4 on Steam, and when Origin switched to the EA app, I moved over without any issues. I’ve been using the EA app ever since. The thing is, I started buying my DLC packs from Instant Gaming because they’re cheaper. They’d give me a code, and I’d redeem it on Steam. Every time, the packs showed up in my game no problem, and they eventually transferred over to the EA app too.

But now, something weird is happening. The EA app shows that I own all my packs (even though I redeemed them on Steam), but Steam only shows the base game and Backyard Stuff—which is weird because I don’t even remember buying that pack. When I check the properties in Steam, all my packs are listed in the files, but they don’t show up in my library.

The most frustrating part? When I open the game through the EA app, it tells me I don’t own some of the expansion packs—like Seasons—and says I need to download The Sims 4… even though I’m literally playing the game at that moment. It’s so confusing because the EA app clearly knows I have the packs, but the game is acting like I don’t.

I’ve tried everything I can think of to fix this, but nothing works. Has anyone dealt with this before or knows what I should do? I’m really stuck here.

Thanks in advance!

  • @mariabig  Backyard Stuff was briefly free, so perhaps you redeemed it during that time.

For the packs you bought through Instant Gaming, I'm wondering whether they were EA App codes, and Steam just passed along the data to the App, so to speak.  It's unusual to see Steam codes for Sims 4 on sale at all.  This would mean you own the packs through the App, and while they'd still be usable with a Steam install, they wouldn't normally show up in your Steam library.

For the rest, please uninstall Sims 4 and the EA App with Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine), as described here:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/PC/CURRENT-ISSUE-Sims-4-DLC-shows-as-installed-won-t-load-in-game/m-p/12942151#uninstall

Reinstall the App, then reinstall Sims 4 through Steam, and download any packs you own in the EA App through that app, but NOT a second copy of the base game.  Everything should install into the Steam version's program files and load as if you'd bought it all through Steam.

@mariabig  Please run a search for EP03 , which is the folder for City Living.  Open a File Explorer window, click This PC in the left panel, and enter EP03 in the search field in the upper-right corner.  Wait for the search to finish, then make sure the full file path is showing under each result.  If it's not, expand the window sideways as necessary.  Take a screenshot using Windows key-shift-S and attach it to a reply here.

Repeat for EP05 , which is Seasons.

Hi again! Sorry for the delay—it’s been a hectic week, but I finally have some free time now. Here are the two screenshots of the packs.

@mariabig  You searched for EP04, which is Cats & Dogs.  And you only searched C, where there is apparently no copy of City Living anywhere.  The results are shortcuts, not pack data.

If you're having trouble with Microsoft search, try installing Everything, from VoidTools, which is a free and highly efficient search tool.  Run the same searches and post the results.
