I might be late with this, but on the other hand, Expansions/DLC does not have the same refund policy as normal games, so there's no "24-hour limit".

It sounds like your computer does not meet the system requirements for the game. This is a common problem for people playing with Cats&Dogs. If you go into CAS, usually with a big dog, but for some computers both dog sizes, the game will crash. 

There are a more or less four solutions:

• Do not play with dogs
• Adopt dogs through the adoption service, but never go into cas with them
• Contact EA support and ask very nicely for a refund
• Get a new computer
