sims 4 crashes my pc, constantly crashing

i'm not sure where else to ask for some advice on this issue, and i may need guidance on trying to figure out how to hopefully resolve this.

the issue: sims 4 will crash at random times, or even crash/blue screen my pc. my pc is brand new cyberpowerpc that is meant for gaming. i only have these issues when playing sims 4, so i figured it may be a direct cause.

this happens with or without mods/cc. i have tried clean reinstalls, new saves, and even reinstalling my graphics drivers. my current graphics driver is NVIDIA's geforce game ready driver version 577.00 and it is up to date. i also checked my computer for ram issues, additional driver updates, and for repairs... everything seemed fine but i could be missing something. sims 4 is also "optimized" in the graphic driver's settings, but unsure if i need to adjust something else.

Even if you did a clean reinstall of the driver, I'd suggest doing so again, and this time, going back to an older driver just in case the newest one doesn't get along with Sims 4.  I've seen some reports that the next-newest driver could be an issue, although nothing definitive.  But since you need to do a clean uninstall anyway, and it's easy to update an older driver to a new one, please try the driver from mid-March.  You can get it here:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/

Choose Game Ready Driver as the Download Type to be able to go back further.  Please use this technique to clean-uninstall your current driver:

If you get another crash, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

    Thanks for the help!

I'm a bit confused on what to download out of these options?

  • craftysimss  The "portable" version doesn't need to be formally installed.  Portable in this case means you can drag the app around and it'll still work fine.  This is useful for IT types trying to fix other people's computers but also convenient in general in that you don't need to do anything special to move or uninstall the app.  So choose that one if you like, but it doesn't matter for the purpose of my suggestion.

So I am honestly nervous to do this process due to the warnings, is there something else I could do?

  • craftysimss  This is the most reliable way to remove and replace a graphics driver.  Yes, you could try something else first.  But if it doesn't help, we wouldn't know whether the driver was still the issue, which means you'd need to use DDU anyway.

So please try it now.  It is very safe if you follow the instructions.  The problems happen when people don't do it correctly.  And make sure you know the password for your Windows account.  It's fine if you typically use a PIN, but you need the actual password for this process.  If you don't know it, login to your Microsoft account and reset it before using DDU.
