Sims 4 Random game freezing, even after repair and updates

Sims 4 randomly freezes, the cursor will still be able to move and the music will continue playing, but everything else is frozen. it's happened to me over the last few versions of the game, I have tried without mods, with a new save, deleting the cache file, reinstalling GPU drivers, repairing the game with no luck. The game will eventually freeze, sometimes after 30 minutes, sometimes after 10 - there's no specific action in-game that causes it.

has anyone else had this issue?

I've attached my DXDiag, (I don't have a crash report as the game only freezes, i need to win+tab a new desktop to be able to access the task manager to force quit when this happens)

@Stephen_Mulhern  Sorry, I somehow missed your post earlier.  When you did this hardware monitoring, how long did you let hwinfo run for?  The log is less than three minutes long, which isn't enough time to judge whether there's anything going on that might account for the freezes.  It also looks from the power and usage stats like you were actively playing for less than a minute.

If you stopped the log early, please try it again, except this time make sure to let it run through the game freeze.  If you already did so, let me know how long the interval was between when you opened hwinfo and when the game froze.

  • I think that time the freeze happened quite quickly after I started the game. But I can try recording another one for you to get more context

@Stephen_Mulhern  Another log would be great, especially knowing exactly how long passed between when you started the log and when the freeze happened.  The reason I keep asking is that a log that's cut short of its expected length can be a symptom all by itself, even if there's nothing alarming in the log.

@Stephen_Mulhern  Sorry for the late reply.  I can see where the game froze in this hwinfo log: the CPU and GPU activity drop considerably, all of a sudden and at the same time, just before the log ends.  There's no obvious reason for it though—everything looks fine right up until that point.  The only detail I noticed is that your system downloads something, there's no indication of what, a few seconds before the system downclocks.

Connection issues aren't my strong suit, so I can't really tell you why this would freeze your system, or even how plausible it is that this is in fact the cause.  But it's easy enough to test: play while your computer is offline.  You can sign into Origin and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or pull the ethernet cable before launching the game.  The download happens over your Broadcom wireless adapter, not the ethernet; I don't know whether you even have ethernet hooked up.  But if you do, and playing while offline works but isn't a good long-term solution for you, you can try just disabling wifi and letting your computer use the ethernet connection.

If this doesn't help, let me know; I want to get a second opinion from someone who's better at these kinds of things than I am.
