sims 4 scroll wheel

I haven't played Sims since April, and now I did the last update and when I want to scroll through idk clothes/hair/furniture and anything like that, the mouse wheel no longer works and I have to scroll down or up manually from the dash on the right (I don't know if it makes sense but it's very annoying and I don't think I'm remembering it wrong and it's always been that way pls help)

  • @xnxmxrix  Does the scroll wheel work at all in the game?  I know it can be a bit finicky sometimes, but it shouldn't have stopped working entirely.

If it doesn't at all, please try playing in a clean boot:

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.

The idea here is to see whether some other background process is interfering.  If the clean boot helps, you can selectively reenable services until the scroll wheel stops working again, then disable some of the services you just reenabled until you find the culprit.  The 50/50 (binary sort) method is a helpful approach here: enable half the services, then enable half the rest if it's still working, or disable half the ones you just enabled if the problem returns.

  • @xnxmxrix  The scroll wheel should work in general.  I just asked someone who's been playing post-patch and who said it works fine, so this isn't a game bug.

Instead, it might be due to an overlay or something else conflicting with Sims 4.  So please disable any apps you use that come with overlays: Steam, Discord, etc.  Disable the EA App in-game overlay too, under Settings > Application.

If that doesn't help, try switching Sims 4 to windowed mode, as a test.
