Sims 4 Takes Forever to Load and locks up computer on close

Hello. I’m getting pretty frustrated again. I’m sick of the new EA app and I miss playing sims on origin but I refuse to play there now since I won’t get game updates or new packs that way.

I am at a total loss. Playing this game makes me angry and sad more then having fun nowadays but nothing I do every fixes anything permanently.

I contacted Microsoft about my computer but they can’t seem to see why my computer is locking up. It even locks up for other things but currently it’s my sims. I know how to fix the startup already with a new sims 4 folder (which is getting old to have to keep doing this every other day) Now, when I close my game it circles till my computer starts overheating and the fan starts running hard. Today while loading my loading screen flashed to white multiple times. I can’t Even explain these issues I’m having at this point bc nothing functions properly with this game. I have a gaming laptop and do NOT play any other games besides sims and have plenty of space and what not. I wish I never complained about origin bc the EA app is personally the WORST thing to ever happen and I don’t think my PC likes or can handle the program.

can someone please help me? I’ll be playing again on Sunday as I won’t be around tomorrow. I appreciate any and all help.

@smilelikemiles  If you restart your computer and wait five minutes, do you see any Adobe-related entries in the Task Manager's background processes list?  If so, can you end these services without them restarting on their own?

There's also a more aggressive way to stop a service from starting with Windows, or on its own in general.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "msconfig" without quotes, click the Services tab, check the box to hide Microsoft services, and uncheck the box next to anything you don't want running.  The catch here is that you might need to reenable these services when you want to use the associated apps, which could be inconvenient if you're using Adobe frequently.  But at least this works for testing purposes.

@smilelikemiles  If OneDrive isn't present at all, that's fine and also one less thing to worry about.

Adobe apparently runs some background process that checks for licenses for a lot of users if not everyone.  Maybe some people buy the base software but pirate the add-ons?  I don't really know, but the fact that this process is running on your computer doesn't mean you've done anything wrong, only that Adobe has built some anti-piracy software into the program itself.

The point of shutting down the Adobe-related processes in the Task Manager is to test the game.  If this helps, then you might only need to prevent Adobe from starting with Windows, which it may have set itself to do.  (You can check in the Task Manager's Startup tab.)  Since it's not clear from your dxdiag why Sims 4 is running so badly compared to what you'd expect, fixing it might take some experimentation.  There are other ways to prevent software from opening too; whether one of these is right for you depends on how often you use Adobe.

Ah I see! Thanks for explaining. Would I be able to possibly disable these Adobe processes by going into Adobe?

@smilelikemiles  I expect that Adobe has some master "start with Windows" toggle, if you can find it.  I don't know how customizable the related services are; it may be that the application and all its extra services start together or not at all.

Hi I have not been able to find the source of whatever the Adobe thing is. I opened creative cloud but I don’t see anything in there with any settings where I would disable anything. Under task manager all Adobe stuff is disabled at startup so I’m confused as to why that Adobe thing keeps crashing. Idk where I would go to fix that issue bc idk what it is or what it has to do with anything. I have Adobe products but I’m not running them currently nor do I have any of them starting at start up. I have nothing on my PC that opens when I start up my laptop.

Thanks. My game is currently up and running as normal and I’m not having any issues at startup but if I have any other issues I will see what happens. I don’t use Adobe stuff super frequently but I’d probably forget how to enable everything again when the time came to use the products again so idk if I would want to take the aggressive approach knowing myself lol

but I will check task manager at startup when I’m back on tomorrow and see. Usually a lot of Adobe things appear on task manager for me at startup but idk which one is causing the issue as I’ve never seen the AGS one that was throwing the error. I updated creative cloud and photoshop today and closed them and a pop up titled “Adobe error” showed up but the box was white and just disappeared. I went in and figured out how to disable the AGS thing at startup so I’m hoping that at least makes a difference but when I did go onto my Adobe products and creative cloud I don’t see a master option to doable anything from startup anywhere so my guess is everything just starts up itself. But if it is, it’s in the background bc I don’t have any apps or anything opening upon starting up my computer. Not even the EA app.
