Sims 4 too laggy to open

I have been unable to play Sims 4 for weeks now due to extreme lag. Previously my game ran smoothly. I have been playing for years and never encountered anything like this. My laptop does not lag using any other software which leads me to believe the problem lies with the Sims 4. The issue seemed to appear randomly. I have tried everything I can think of to resolve it, including:

  • removing all CC and mods
  • updating my laptop
  • repairing the game through the EA app
  • playing with base game only
  • lowering graphics settings
  • using windowed mode
  • uninstalling and reinstalling the game

Nothing has worked and I am at my wit’s end. I have been looking forward to the Adventure Awaits pack but I can’t even play my game normally. It is extremely frustrating, and also disappointing given how much money and time I have invested into this game.

    francescarose13​  Have you tried moving or renaming the Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts yet?  If not, please do that now, and let me know whether it helps.

    Please also try playing with your computer offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

    If neither helps, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
