Sims 4 unable to start
Ever since the last update, I've been unable to even start Sims 4 and instead receive this message: Unable to start: Cannot start because required game data is missing or damaged. Please repair or...
Do you have friends or relatives with better Internet connection that you could borrow?
Unfortunately I do not.
I also have a desktop and not a laptop, so even if I did have someone with a better internet connection, it would be a whole thing to move around to another location and set back up.
I will recommend that you look into getting faster more reliable Internet at least for a while. Bad internet and gaming is a poor combination.
I already have the fastest internet we can get where I live, which is unfortunately satellite-based. Our "unlimited high speed hours" are between 1 am and 7 am, but even then Origin is extremely slow when it comes to downloading anything. I have always gotten less than 200 kb/sec no matter what time of day it is. This morning my maximum was around 153 kb/sec for Origin, but it's so inconsistent that for the most part I'd argue that it's somewhere closer to 100 kb/sec on average. For comparison, downloading with Steam I was hitting a maximum of 500+ kb/sec.
Thank you for trying to help me, @jpkarlsen.
I'm just really frustrated with this because something breaks and makes the Sims unplayable for me every time Origin runs some kind of update and I feel like I spend more time and energy trying to fix it than I do getting to play the Sims. I downloaded the base game and all of the packs and expansions on this satellite internet, and while it was a long, slow download because of that, I was still able to download them and get it to play. Now, however, it'll tick away around 12-26 kb/sec and then drop off to 0 kb/sec after anywhere between 15-30 minutes. I can't even let it run overnight to download because it just comes to a dead stop whenever it pleases.
I guess I should add that everything else I use for gaming can handle updates/downloads just fine. Origin has consistently been a problem.
(Sorry for straying into an almost-rant. I'll be leaving this alone for today and coming back to try more troubleshooting tomorrow once I have time to cool down.)
